After the Lesnar match Dana promised proved too expensive to book. And after Cormier decided to play the magnaminous lord and said he wanted to honor his promise of giving Stipe the rematch if the Lesnar fight didn't work out (without mentioning the little Lewis interlude)...

It wasn't quite the immediate gesture like the UFC showed Cain when they booked him into the next opening with the guy who took his belt ('course Cain being Cain he injured himself out of the opportunity). Nor the favor they gave Cormier who had demanded his last fight be an immediate rematch, and went so far as to threaten Stipe with stripping to get it done on their time schedule. But letting Stipe have his rematch was a fallback position, not a favor. Stipe was a Plan B or even C.
