UFC started this shit show with how they've been doing business the past few years. I'm all for fighters doing everything possible to maximize their value even if it means holding out. This sport is brutal and takes a toll on these guys so make what you can and don't give a fuck about what anyone thinks.

My best friend was a paramedic and is a firefighter and he's not like that at all. You're just hanging around the wrong people it seems. Also, guys in every other profession aren't exactly saints either.

Nah I think it's just harder to promote someone then people think it is. There's a reason no other promoter in the world of MMA has been able to just make someone a star. It's hard as hell to convince people to like someone there has to be some natural pull to that person to begin with.

lol this isn't a firefighter thing this is just a being a guy type of thing. Not saying all guys but I will say most.
 
That's his fault for negotiating his contract the way he did. You signed on the line to accept x amount per fight. So fulfill that contract and renegotiate when the time comes

Well, the concept is sound (if a business makes more money, they can hire more people - that's not rocket science), but this isn't trickle down economics. This is more equivalent to one employee getting a bonus, and then expecting all the other employees to get the same bonus. "Trickle sideways" economics, if you will.
 
I understand UFC fighters are underpaid, but ironically from this boycott they are making less interest in MMA, less money coming in. WME is an a hard situation to payback their debt and doesn't have the cash to throw at all the fighters. The sport can't be a fight once a year and make a million dollars and still remain sustainable. Look at boxing for a mature combat sport to get an idea of what reasonable wages are. The lower guys there don't get paid. GGG is only worth 6 million despite 37 fights, undefeated, and one of the better fighters.

Stipe is 17-2 with only 15 fights in UFC and worth over 2 Million.

Star or not... & needle mover or not... The UFC can't have the baddest MMA fighter on the planet go to another organization.

Stipe is playing a big money game against experts in the big money game field... but all the paper pushing in the world can't get in the cage & put it all on the line. Stipe has that going for him.

So pay the man... (give him a piece of the PPV) & then get him a PR assistant to guide him how to be a draw.

This is not the reality of promotional contracts.

The way they are setup, Zuffa doesn't guarantee you anything. They can sign you for 7 fights, and cut you apropos of nothing after the first fight and offer no compensation. Why on earth would Stipe be required to perform his end of the deal, and the UFC isn't required to do the same?

Law professors have called the UFC promotional contract, which were made public pursuant to litigation, "the worst they've ever seen." They are completely one sided and some argue not even enforceable as written, if people had the resources to challenge them.

So the current setup is the UFC can cut you without cause at any time, and the counterpart to that is you can't compel fighters to fight.

Not fighting is Stipe's right and he's wise to advocate for himself. His only duty is to himself and his family. The UFC literally kicked Georges St. Pierre on his way out the door - we are talking a years long company man who rained tens of millions of dollars for them. You will most definitely be treated as a disposable resource.

It blows my mind people don't support the fighters.

During the sale we got to see what the EBITA was, and more importantly, what the EBITA was projected to be. WME are the best negotiators in the world and they specialized in negotiating content deals. They are in the process of reworking their TV rights deal and made rounds to the press saying they will get a windfall of 4x the current deal.

The only content they have to offer in their media rights, is fighters fighting. So they are selling the backs of these guys, who have no advocacy or representation.

So this a really hard sell - play a tiny violin for Zuffa and WME. Not going to happen.
