* Stipe refusing to fight until contract is re-negotiated !

You are still missing the point.

The UFC bakes into the contract the ability to cut the fighter at any time with no further compensation. The fighter, to advocate for themselves, can chose not to fight. That is literally their only leverage.

Stipe is exercising his right to sit out. Saying 'you signed the contract' is misguided. The contract is not enforceable with regards to compelling someone to cage fight. That is not legally possible. It does prevent them from fighting elsewhere while the contract is still active. Stipe isn't in breach of that deal.

I think you are missing what I said.. He signed a contract to fight for $Xxx's, a contract that he agreed to including all the one sided UFC terms and conditions. I agree with you that he is within his right to not fight.. And by not fighting he makes no money.

but in the ed ghe signed a contract to agree to fight for a certain dollar amount for 7 fights so he has nobody to blame for that but him.. He could have tried to add champion clauses and escalating salary per fight or anything else..

Guy hasnt figured out its a "high-school popularity contest" nowadays as far as pay and marketing goes

Kinda sucks just beating ass aint good enough anymore

Want more proof???

Holly Holm.

Before her fight with Ronda Rousey.

1. UFC Fight Night (LOL!!), didn't even main event, DIDN'T EVEN CO-MAIN EVENT, She was third on a UFC fight night card (F**KING LOL).

Earnings: $50,000

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_Fight_Night:_Mir_vs._Duffee

Not a PPV, so no buyrate. and only $412,000 at the gate .... LMAO.

2. UFC 193, PPV headliner v Ronda Rousey.

Buyrate: 1,100,000.

Earnings: $180,000

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_193

not to mention more fans:

3. UFC 196: After her popularity increase from fighting Ronda, her salary increased A LOT.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_196

Buyrate: 1,300,000 (ok McGregor was headlining)

Earnings: $500,000

(10 times!!, YES, TEN TIMES higher than her purse from two fights ago ... hmmm, you don't suppose this has anything to do with her fighting Ronda Rousey, do you??)

Conclusion:
the exposure and fans that McGregor and Rousey bring to the sport, makes other fighters richer.

Conclusion:
you are wrong ... again, PERIOD.
46k fighting 500k. Seems like a 46k fighter wouldn't even be in the ring at the same time as the 500k one. How is there not a pay scale? I understand there would be some wiggle room for circumstance but that's fucking stupid. UFC is a clusterfuck!

Good for him. It's unbelievable that Overeem got paid more than Stipe, who was the champ and fighting in his home town drawing everyone to the show! Disrespectful.

You're just repeating the same things, and forgive me, but it is misguided.

The UFC has leverage in that they can lock you up for a period, e.g., 7 fights or three years, whichever comes first. Despite this, they can cut you at any time, without compensation. The fighter has leverage in that they can refuse fights offered to them.

So when people say 'honor the contract' its apocryphal, Stipe has honored the contract. He is forbidden from booking fights with other organizations. He cannot be 'required' to take fights the UFC offers him however.

The only leverage Stipe has is refusing to fight, if he feels the UFC isn't negotiating a fair deal for him in consideration of his wins. The fact that the UFC insisted upon an excessively long term deal in the fist place was their decision, this is the result of that.

The best time to renegotiate is when you are the heavyweight champion of the world and literally knocking everyone out. Stipe has consecutively knocked out Mark Hunt, Arlovski, Werdum, Overeen and Dos Santos. Four of those were first round knockouts.

There is no dispute he's the best in the world, and to let him sit on the shelf or wait out his contract would be bad for the UFC's overall business. So we'll see what shakes out. Stipe is wise to advocate for himself, and this is the only tool available to him since fighters have no advocacy.

Don't be scared to ask for what you want.

Is Stipe going to get thrown under the bus and called a pussy because he won't Cain for his contracted rate?
Mighty Mouse got dragged through the coals for asking for less. He wasn't even asking for a contract re-negotiation, just wanted some guarantees.

He may be one fight away from getting the UFC HW defense record. He may be KOing 3 top fighters dead in the first round. But he doesn't "move the needle" from the internet audience.

Clearly he needs to stop being the best fighter/able to destroy any other man in unarmed combat. His priorities are off in this fighting org. He needs to talk about resting his balls on someone's head and moonlight as a youtube comedian with some good one-line zingers. That's what we're paying you guys for.

Welcome to the UFC/WME. Wear your reebok and stop thinking your fighting skills should earn you money.

He is an average looking dude with a very dry personality who doesnt draw in viewers. One of the few heavyweight champs nobody cares about

Stipe is willing to fight anyone, also MM has been pushed by the ufc but can not sell for shit.

MM thinks he should make a million per fight when he probably doesn't even bring that profit in himself. He will realise once his next ppv bombs at 100k buys.

JDS and Reem get paid more because of that stupid veteran rule Reebok enforced.

Didn't ask for millions to fight TJ. Just wanted to make sure his title defense record isn't tarnished by a failed weight cut. Funny how the story get's twisted a blown out of proportion.

Yet he's fighting a dude that struggles to make the weight?

He was making excuses saying that tj shouldn't be able to cut in line and all that, so he takes a fight that no casuals have ever heard of.

Strip him of the belt.

He can then fight out his contract as gatekeeper.

Unless you got the profitability of a Conor McGregor, you'll have to fight out your current contract. Too many fighters think they can just re-negotiate and go back on their word, or in this case a written and agreed upon contract. This is not to defend the UFC, fighters should get as much as they can but once a deal is signed, don't be a bitch ass and start throwing tantrums when other fighters have more popularity make more of the money. It's because they put butts in seats, and get people to shell out for the PPV.

Touche.
But tbf Borg has made the weight at least a few times. TJ hasn't fought at 125 once in his career.

Yea I get you, but 2 times in like 7 ufc fights is crazy, if he misses weight I'll piss myself laughing.

Dana is the type of guy that would offer him 100k to miss weight. TJ was obviously confident he could make it and also offered DJ 50% of his purse.

When someone struggles with a weight cut like Borg and he needs to get to 125 on the dot... It makes you wonder if he can do it.

Something has been niggling at the back of my head and I finally tracked it down...

At the time of the last contract negotiation, Stipe's manager was Greg Kalikas. "Miocic’s manager, Greg Kalikas, said the fighter hired a sports attorney to negotiate his UFC 203 contract with the new owners." http://www.crainscleveland.com/arti...94/ufc-when-breaking-bones-means-big-business That's written August 27 '16.

But that's not his manger now. It's currently a guy named Jim Walker.
https://mmaoddsbreaker.com/videos-p...nt-ufc-champion-stipe-miocic-the-mma-industry
And Jim says there "After he [Stipe] won his title against Werdum in Brazil, he was looking for a change in management" (go to 8:35 in the video)

AND the really interesting bit...Kalikas has been accused of seriously improper practices: http://mmaorwtf.yolasite.com/

Now I REALLY have to wonder how all that plays into Stipe's apparent change of heart about this contract.
