Yeah honestly it’s funny just how easily I feel like I can brush this off. Jones has basically zero credibility and Stipe has always come across as one of the nicest and most respectful fighters in the UFC. If Stipe says he didn’t say it, I believe him. And I have no reason to take Jones’ word on it lol

The other option would be to kick stipe out of a fight that he already had a full camp for and waited for like a year for. Either that or strip Jones.

Both of which would probably get far more backlash, especially since Tom is a relative newcomer with one big win under his belt.

Having precedence over 2 legends of the sport with a decade of seniority over him would be odd.

If Tom had been around before the Stipe bout was made, then I think the logic would hold up. Tom would be the obvious next in line.


Since they had this fight contractually signed before Tom came into the title picture, only thing that makes sense is they see it through.

I don’t disagree with any of it

I’m extremely excited for the fight. I just think a lot of the negative press and narrative surrounding the fight would be quelled if it wasn’t for a fake belt. I wish there was more positivity and excitement surrounding the fight and it’s the title implications and holding Tom back really fueling the opposite. This should be a fun fight that fans look forward to and it hasn’t been.
