STARFIELD discussion

Skimmed this. If the game is 1/4 as good as it looks. Man. It's gonna be something.
Pretty much how I feel. A lot of people just wanna say "So just Skyrim in space?". First of all, Skyrim in space would be dope as fuck and everyone knows it. But, it feels like theyre doing a lot of stuff to make this a different experience. The ship building and space combat looks so much better than I anticipated. Even the gunplay looks better than I thought it would. On top of that you have the space exploration angle. The latest complaint seems to be that only 100 planets having life on them is some sort of criticism. I've always found it weird that people will complain that a Bethesda game, of all possible developers, is not giving you enough content to explore. People literally complain there isnt enough content when they know they arent going to visit every location and do every quest. Its complaining there isnt enough content for you not to play. Its weird.

Anyway, Im gonna make a character that looks like adult Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes and name him Spiff. Basically Im just gonna wonder the galaxy. Fly from place to place, meet people, get into adventures

This is brilliant!

This is the game nobody wanted. We asked for a new Skyrim and this is the shit we get. Now we have to wait well after 2030 to even start seeing details about the new skyrim

Eh I'm biased in that I'll take this over another ES. I enjoy space and guns more than FP melee combat and magic though.

I dont get the Skyrim circle jerk. Yeah, it was big. But the gameplay and RPG mechanics were dumbed down, quests were uninspired, characters uninteresting. Now Morrowind is a game that amazed me when it came out. Granted, it hasn't aged well.

More like this is the game that everyone but skyrim cuck soy cuckie soyzers wants! I wouldn't play a new skyrim equivalent ever. That game was not for me. Starfield >>>>>>> Skyrim all day brahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhz. This is a Star + Field conversation so be a star and...uh...field your way out of it you Skycuck RimSoyer!

Never understood it either. I thought the mage school quest line was really good and that's the rest was ok.

Did you finish it? There's always a certain degree of things just not working for someone even if it works for someone else. But there were sequences in Skrim that really harkened back to that really foreign, weird type fantasy that Morrowond had and Oblivion didn't.

Ultimately, I don't think any ES game has really had anything except workable, perfunctory combat. It is what it is and works at that. But I also never really played much first person melee combat that I thought was awesome.

That's one of the things that has me excited about Starfield. I don't think it's gonna be on par with Doom or anything, but the combat looks more fun than I anticipated.

There was nothing in Skyrim that was as rewarding as figuring out you could launch yourself across the entire world by using the right potion. Or mastering levitation and finding out there was an entire area of the game you couldn't otherwise access. And the game didn't just hand this shit to you, you had to explore and find it on your own. Skyrim was cookie cutter, severely dumbed down the RPG mechanics, and just threw you into a big world populated by boring NPCs and endless quests generated by AI that hadn't yet figured out how to be creative.

Modern Bethesda games throw the coolest things the game has to offer at you immediately but in noob mode. Example: Fallout 4 hands you power armor and has you fight a Deathclaw in the very first quest most players will encounter. Is it sad my expectations for a new Elder Scrolls rely on how far AI will have progressed by the time they actually leave the pre-production phase?

The game itself is alright, but I feel like a modded Skyrim can be some top tier gaming experience.

Never did do any of the modding. Never been that big of a fan of modding on PC games. Other than Mass Effect which I did just for graphical enhancements and controller support. With the remastered version though I don't even bother with that.

Fully modded Skyrim looks goddam insane. If you have the time and inclination, you can do amazing things

Man. Are you seriously going to tell me you hate soy that much? You never eat rice with soy sauce. I get that it shouldn’t replace meat but soya sauce is dope and makes rice way better.

This game looks incredible. Like my brother said the type of Star Wars game that should be out there. The ship customization, combat, and exploration really stand out in the videos shown. Will probably pick this up if it gets decent reviews.

Reviews are gonna be tough to get at launch given the breadth. Always a dice roll getting Bethesda games on day one. We'll see.

I'm leaning towards this being a better launch. The Microsoft guy (Spector? Forget his name), said tbey basically gave Bethesda an extra 9 months to just polish and bug fix. On top of this being Bethesdas first new IP in decades so I get the feeling they won't fuck around with it.

There's still bound to be bugs. Their games are too massive not have them. Dozens of QA testers vs millions of players is always gonna skew towards players as far as finding bugs.

I hope so. But the reason bethesda games are always so buggy is because they're always trying things no one else has done and at a scale that has never been done. I don't mind the jank. As long as I don't get quest killing or save erasing games, I'm fine.

Exactly. FO4 literally bugged my save to the point I couldn't continue the main quest. I'll probably wait either way but that's mainly because there's just so much stuff coming out this year. I have a feeling I'll be burnt out by the time September comes.
