The Last Jedi displays what we have been left with as consumers. Who cares though when we can see another Star Wars movie in a year!

How a person can give this a 10 (excellent) or 9 (great) rating is beyond me.
Conversely it's beyond me how anyone can give it a 1 or a 2.

The whole plot, from "Do it! to, "Execute Order 66" is driven by Palpatine. McDermaid pretty much carries the whole film, and gives us one of the GOAT Big Bads in any franchise. I was actually cheering him on, he was just so much cooler than the Jedi. I'd rather watch Palpatine than Mary Sue Rey, Supreme Scrotum Face and Emo Ren.

While Portman was her usual annoying self, there was real emotional heft in Obi Wan's arc, having to come to terms with the fact the man he loved as a brother had betrayed not only him but the whole galaxy. Yes, we knew from ANH that Vader was a bastard. But blowing up Aldarin didn't have even half the impact of that scene with the Youngllings...
McDiarmid, whatever the spelling, is awesome.

But we didn't need Anakin killing children in a Star Wars movie. It was thematically out of place in the overall tone of SW, and unnecessary. PG-13 wasn't necessary. I and my best friend haven't shown it to our ten year old kids, and they wonder why, they want to see the conclusion.

"I may have gone too far in a few places... the thing is, I've been giving this a lot of thought : we can't really remove a lot of segments because they lead into the next..." (paraphrased)

He knew he'd created a less than original trilogy standard movie.
With all the new tech, he made a set of films that lacked genuine emotional moments. All of it felt contrived.

My problem with RotS is Anakin’s heel turn isn’t believable. How does he go from “what have I done?!” to slaughtering 4 year olds within a couple of hours?

That’s easy. If it pisses a person off on an emotional level they’ll have an emotional response and react accordingly. By no means is it a 4/10 movie objectively, but I hated it so much such that 4/10 is the vote I’m giving to this piece of shit.

I wasn't being completely serious considering I'm one of the people that has their reasons for rating it a 9 :)

Dat look He gave jangos corpse doe..
He can add a "riveting performance" aspect to any film, becoming the only character you look at.
But he was wasted in another could-have-been.

The confounding thing about the films, as someone who saw the original trilogy on initial release, is that the prequels focused on a few characters I already liked or was prepped to like.

And Lucas fucked that up, and I'm still a bit off put about it.

Obi Wan was stiff. Anakin was not a terribly sympathetic character.
Nor was Amidala because her arc was that of a woman who'd never fall in love with that guy, falling in love with that guy, in a totally forced romance without any feeling.

I liked the Emperor.

Naw, obi was not that "stiff" to me. He was the highlight.

Yeah its not a 3 below shit fest, but its not a 7+ either.

I can buy into anyone giving it a 4-6 rating, but a 7 requires a semi explanation. 8 and up, well now i gotta think the person is awful at rating movies or awful at rating.

“Terminator vs Terminator 2? How about neither, Terminator 3 is the best movie in that franchise” -Shadow

“Alien vs Aliens? Naw, Alien Resurrection is where it’s at!” -Shadow

He got angry, I guess.
Throughout the trilogy we're supposed to believe Anakin is a good friend of Obi-Wan based on a single line of dialogue in ANH.

But there's really nothing there in the prequels to support that, with Anakin basically a non character in ep 1, and in the following two films is a pretentious, insecure asshole.
It's just not there, the emotional connection we're supposed to make with him. Without that, I end up watching the events unfold from a distance, separated from the characters I'm meant to care about and I become detached.

Cognative dissonance? He had already betrayed everything he was raised and trained to believe in by helping Sideous murder Windu. His only real choice was to accept he was beyond redemption, and therefor had nothing to lose.

The novelisation of Revenge does a far better job of selling Anakin and Obi Wan's friendship. Partly, of course, because it can take you directly into the character's heads.

“From my perspective the Jedi are evil!” suggests he didn’t have an attitude of “fuck it, I’m beyond redemption”. It’s just shitty, inconsistent writing.

Doesnt surprise me. Theres just about nothing to compete with it. Even if there was, producers would never release their movies near a star wars premiere.

As said by me, who disapproves this movie.. Even i wouldve gone to see it after reading and hearing how shitty it was because, welk, i love it. Only after i get slapped in my face will i had learned my lesson.

Tonally bouncing like an onside kick

Y'know I do remember the younglings scene as being pretty fucked up for Star Wars, the little kid was dressed up in his jedi garb too. That whole movie contains a bunch of stuff that children can't handle. My little sister wasn't allowed to watch because the end scene with Skywalker going up in flames. It's not a feel good film really.

I'll admit I'm easy going and will concede that my score of 9 is not easily justifiable. All I can say is I thoroughly enjoyed the movie so I voted because of a strong emotional reaction. In retrospect a 7 would been a more reasonable score from me. I still say anything below a 5 is unreasonable but I can understand some people voting that low for the same but opposite reasons I voted to high. This movie brought out a lot of emotional responses from people.

Just because there is nothing to compete with it does not give reason to why so many people are leaving their homes and opening their wallets to see this movie. If there is nothing to compete with it and the movie is that bad wouldn't people just stay home?

It isnt that bad as noted in the other reply. Its not good but its still got STAR WARS on it. For now, it will sell no matter what.

If its doing worse than TFA then you have some data to weigh. The next one is where youll see a weaker premiere, bar none.
