Luke is a Jedi master in Return while in Empire he is just a scrub
Luke is hardly a scrub in TESB. He managed to land a legit hit on Vader's shoulder which in turn forced Vader to fight seriously.

At this point Luke had 3 years of informal training as a Jedi and summer camp with Yoda.

His growth rate is amazing as noted by a concerned Palpatine.

I guess I just have to accept that this trilogy is for the new fans that gravitate more to the new characters.

Well the original cast is literally dying off at this point, so yeah. It's time to establish some new people.

Well I think a huge them across the franchise is the shaky foundation upon which the Jedi Order stands.

I think being a Jedi is shaky

Anakin was lead to the dark side not by a desire to be more powerful or defeat an enemy. His desire was to save the one he loved

I think thats great cause it shows that the most earnest thing can lead you down the path of the dark side.

I think people gloss over it and dont really think about it.

Kylo kinda reminds me of a Anakin type character

What are his motivations tho? Did he only turn to the dark side cause Luke tried to kill him?

@shadow_priest_x Help me out buddeh. What are the motivations behind his actions?

Well the movie would have us believe that he has a natural inclination toward the Dark Side . . . but that he still has good in him. So I agree that he is similar to Anakin.

Kylo killed his father Han, but it fucked him up inside. And when he was about to destroy the ship his mother was on, he relented when he realized she was on board.

Everything does seem to hinge on the moment when Luke tried to kill him. Much like Anakin had his moments where he become convinced that the Dark Side was the path to go down--such as Mace Windu ordering Palpatine's summary execution--this was Kylo's moment. He felt betrayed by Luke, and therefore also betrayed by the Jedi. It was enough to convince him to embrace the Dark Side, which had already been calling out to him.

Then 5 secs later he is shooting at the ships she is trying to evacuate in....

Sounds less poetic than Anakin

the white knights of Disney are still defending this poor star wars film. literally the same 3 while everyone else is hating on it.

People can relate to the struggles Anakin has. Everyone has someone they love right? That helps me understand the character and put myself in his shoes

Cant relate with Kylo like that

Is Star Wars still I thing? I wouldn't know I'm not a nerd.

Next morning and still love the movie. It wasn't perfect and neither are the Jedi. Luke's character worked fine with me. Its not like yoda was mr. positive when Luke came to him for training either. So many past complaints about reshashing these movies and the first time a character does something out of line the movie and franchise is 'ruined' for some people.
{<huh}{<huh}{<huh}

Nobody would've complained if they set things up correctly. You can't expect people to be happy when you have built up these foreshadowing and theories, but at the end, you just burn them all in front of the audiences and say " HA HA TRICKED YA ! "

The thing is, we still don't know a ton about Kylo. We are learning as we go, from film to film.

Totally get that

But they only have 1 movie left in this trilogy.

I hope that will be enough and he doesn't just turn into some stepping stone for Rey

Maybe I'm wrong- but I tend to take Luke's account quite seriously in terms of his sensing the darkness in Ren, and then being completely floored by the extent to which that was the case. His temporary weakness in wanting to off his nephew might have forced Ren's hand/galvanized him to act quickly, but my assumption is that he was already corrupted and it was just a matter of time. Only difference if Luke turned a blind eye and didn't confront Kylo there is that Ren would have likely gotten the drop on him and the others at a later date.

shadow priest literally spends 98% of his time in mayberry dying on the hills of mediore-to-bad movies. the other 2% is being a racist, misogynistic, & transphobic bigot.

But it was unexpected brah!
