Yeaa Rey having damn near omnipotent power takes any suspense out of the movies at all. She is op as hell. First she beat Kylo in the first movie with zero training, then saved him in the second. Its clear she is far stronger and superior to him, so whats the suspense? Whats the point of having a villain who has literally no chance?Lol. Snoke atleast was an interesting character (that was before they gave him zero backstory or development and killed him off).

What excitement is there for the next movie? Op hero whose untouchable (Rey), obviously inferior villain (Kylo) who cant decide if hes evil or not, no interesting secrets left to uncover, both armies are pretty much decimated, Snoke is dead, Luke is dead, etc.

Yes!!! Thats pretty much the main turn off so far. I mean other than Luke. But it's like there are no stakes, this movie has disarmed every bad guy in this new trilogy. Rey just matches everyone and saves the day every time. Kylo is still a crybaby that can't fully commit to the dark side, but luke can't turn him or face him in person. I still can't get over that. Finn is a waste, just there for laughs it seems. Rey ain't going to give him any after seeing Kylo without his shirt on. And this movie takes place right after TFA, where the fuck are all the other resistance ships? Did the republic lose it's whole fleet in the what had to be hours after the starkiller base battle? Where did the light speed tracker come into play? Wouldn't they have had it as the star killer base was fending off the attack? They couldn't track the ships then? But hours after the battle of star killer base they some how get this crucial tech? This movie is shit, and it created way more questions then it had to. Didn't offer up anything cannon wise that makes any sense.

Are we okay on spoilers? How about sun spoilers, then?

What you said here is one of my gripes about the movie as well.

  • Kylo turning to the dark side full on is a major plot point & turn of events.
  • They breaze past it with a bit of speculation from the first movie & then a 30 second explanation is all they can fit into the 2nd movie.
That should've really been expanded upon. I would only hope they try & redeem this a bit with the novelization... but they really should've done it in the movie itself.

Ironically of course we got an entire trilogy on Vader's turn yet as far as the original films go I don't think it ever really needed the detail. Kylo though is a very different character, Vader is basically there to play off of Luke, the motivation for his original turn doesn't really matter. Kylo on the other hand is a character driving the story with his own choices, he needs a proper motivation.

I mean surely its not that difficult? I can think of a lot of potential reasons, maybe Kylo loses a sister to the conflict(perhaps secretly killed by Snoke) and feels he needs more power to save others and bring order?

This film does really highlight what a dumb move belittling Kylo at the end of the first film was as well. It should have been Rey and Finn working together barely escaping with their lives. Having him being injuried was a really weak getout, something Abrams included to give fans an excuse but which he doesn't even comit to himself, Kylo doesn't fight like he's injuried and doesn't lose because he's injuried, Rey is simply better.

Watched it last night. In a few words, it wasn't good.

There were so many plot holes, bad acting, and things that simply didn't make sense.

The opening was really fun. I liked it. The rest of the movie was a let down. I can't take Kylo Ren seriously. And Snoke knows sooo much about Kylo, but he doesn't have peripheral vision?! C'mon man!!!

Let down of a movie. Wasn't fresh or innovative. It pisses me off that the SW fans makes this a box office record/success. I wouldn't pay to watch again. Rather watch Justice League again.

@Spoken, Luke by the time of return of the jedi is pretty damn advanced and not really that conflicted. The only time he shows weakness is when he gives in to the dark side when vader threatens to replace him with leia. But luke comes back to his senses quickly, and then refuses the fucking emperor and refuses to give in. His faith in vader paid off. Vader was far more gone then Kylo ren is. Vader spent decades feeding off his anger and regret. Kylo is still young and conflicted. Far from the lost cause vader was. Yet luke just says fuck it im out bitches. Leaving Leia and the republic he fought for behind without any intentions of coming back. I just don't see that as a logical arc. Luke puts it on the line for his friends and family. He faced vader in empire strikes back before he was ready because Leia was in trouble. Luke doesn't run away from a fight. And if he retreats he comes back stronger and with a plan. This old man Luke isn't the luke of return, and what happened between him and Kylo isn't enough for him to write everyone else in his life off.

Interesting point, though at the end of ROJ Luke seemed pretty broken, he was already going the way of Obi Wan and withdrawing from everyone.

If there is one thing the negativity in this thread and in general about this star wars film accomplished its that it made me like it even more.

I throughally enjoyed this movie even if there are some holes. There is still a 3rd movie to pull this story all together and I don't really believe everything as it was presented to us in TLJ.

Thanks for legitimizing my "TLJ is like Trump" theory.

"People think this movie is a pile of shit, and give valid justifications for their criticisms? Fake reviews, this is the greatest movie ever made."

Ya, thats a bit hyperbolic, but not much. The level of denial and acceptance of totally inept, tone-deaf nonsense in this cinematic abortion is astounding.

Next morning and still love the movie. It wasn't perfect and neither are the Jedi. Luke's character worked fine with me. Its not like yoda was mr. positive when Luke came to him for training either. So many past complaints about reshashing these movies and the first time a character does something out of line the movie and franchise is 'ruined' for some people.

Anytime people start getting very picky about plot points or what should or shouldn't be possible, show them this

Today on facebook, while reading through a discussion - I'll call it a bitch session - over the love/hate of TLJ. I actually read these words: "The Original Trilogy isn't as bad ass as you remember, that's why you like Rogue One so much."

It was then I realized I could never understand some of the newer Star Wars fanboys.

Am I taking crazy pills? Or am I just a revisionist who is stuck in the OT?!? Because that jackoff who said the OT wasn't that great, essentially, received like 10+ likes!

It was like someone saying the Godfather was shit because now we have Transformers and the CGI is amazing. I do not even know if I am exaggerating at this point.

Respect your opinion, however Emperor/Vader is almost identical to Snoke/Kylo. Both got distracted and their pupil ceased on it.

Maybe so. But he was there to fight and save his family. Him hiding isn't the biggest issue. Him hiding and simply waiting to die isn't him. If he was there learning more of the force, coming up with a plan to save his family would have made more sense. He fought for his newly gained family only to let them fall to the dark side and or die in a war against the remnants of the empire doesnt sound like luke to me. As withdrawn as he appeared to be to you. He was focused and handled shit. He could have came to the conclusion he did about the jedi and still be active in training young force users. I just think it's wasted opportunities. Thats what this movie is mostly.

You prove our point relating the last jedi with the phantom menace. *head desk*

I liked it. Lack of fan service is wonderful breath of fresh air.

Tone is messy at times, but Star Wars is like that.

I always hate to get into my version of things but I just can't help myself here.

I truly think it would have been way better to combine Finn and Poe into one character. I think it would have been much more interesting to have Finn be an ace FO pilot that defects and that arch spends 3 movies focusing on him adjusting and gaining the trust of leia and assimilating into the resistance. You could cover all of your moral issues in that arch, make Finn a more interesting character that's not a total goof and actually get him credibility with half the screen time required to support him and poe.

Then you spend the rest of the time on the Rey vs Kylo dynamic with Snoke and Luke as the backdrop. The story of how Luke became so broken should have been invested in and stretched over two films, IMO. The contempt from Kylo for Snoke should have been invested in during that time as well. Flesh out the history of Snoke and how Luke became a broken man, and then end their arcs in the final film along with the conclusion of the series.

I just can't imagine that there is a majority out there that would prefer Finn and Rose going to space monte carlo over investing that 30 minutes or so into a slower more detailed depiction of Luke becoming a broken man or who Snoke is.

Lol @ people geting angry that women feel empowered by the film because it gives prominence roles to ladies.
Leila as a feminist pop culture icon. It’s Star Wars being Star was. It was understated and done organically. It’s not Judith Butler or queer theory. It’s just folks being equally all in against the rebellion.

Ya, except thats not it at all. Pink haired admiral purposefully (for no reason whatsoever) doesnt tell Poe the plan, which results in the deaths of thousands as a result of BDT's character giving the plan to the first order. What is the payoff? Stupid hothead man trying to solve things, we had a plan all along and YOU put us in jeopardy.

Characters written for a diversity quota/marketing analytics before asking the question (Are they necessary for the story?) Is the problem. Fixing that entire arc isnt hard at all, while still keeping the "yay women" theme.

Remove pink hair completely, have things go down the way that they did, but the other, homely woman is in command. Her and Poe butt heads, she doesnt want to give poe the plan because of his demotion so he freaks out and gets thrown in the brig. Leia wakes up, frees him, and rose/finn/poe go on a mission to disable the shields of the MSD. They use one of those stealthed transport craft to get aboard the MSD. When everyone is escaping in the transports, a low ranking female officer volunteers to run into the ship while the transports escape to save homely admiral from doing it. Rose and finn shut down the shields, while poe secures a ship to escape. phasma catches finn and rose and instead of BB8, its Poe.

There. You save a pointless 45minute subplot, millions in cgi, and 2 unnecessary characters. You can use that time to flesh out Snoke and Phasma so they arent so utterly useless.

Rather watch Justice League again.

I’m not even a DC fan but I’d also rather watch justice league again rather than this SHIT TLJ. What a disappointment. TFA was actually a good movie and set up what could have been a masterpiece and they do this to Grandmaster Luke!! F you disney!

I thought the movie was awesome and the "twist" should not have been surprising. Siths always try to kill their master, and it's usually stabbing in the back.

Oh, I must have misinterpreted what you were saying.
I think it's because I stated that I enjoyed TFA, which is true, but didn't like the direction it was taking the series, which is why I enjoyed TLJ more.

The thing is, I didn't obsess over fan theories for the past two years and the questions people had after TFA like Rey's lineage or Snoak's character, weren't actually important to me.

While TFJ has it's problems, for me, shitting all over TFA wish fulfillment wasn't one of them. I like that things didn't go as expected and that this trilogy isn't just going to be a retread of the original trilogy. I generally liked Luke's character development as an older, bitter curmudgeon and reluctant instructor. I wasn't crazy about Kylo Ren in TFA, but I liked what they did with him in TFJ.

That's my point, it seems to me that people who loved TFA ended up hating TLJ.

I didnt love TFA but i was entertained. I left wanting more, but i didnt love it.

This was just the epitome of disappointing.
