So, if you eat a bagel in the morning, then have a shitty day at work, do you never eat bagels in the morning again?

Of course not. There are obviously other movies out there where they cast women in leading roles, and those movies did well. You would have to be incredibly stupid to believe that they would purposefully lose money on movies to further some ideology. If they make more movies where they replace traditionally male characters with female characters, and they all bomb, they will stop doing that.

But Ghostbusters was shit. And it wasn't simply because they cast women. It just sucked dicks. I think they all know that, and that's why they are trying the same formula again, but with different characters and scripts. Because they think it will make money.

Your bagel analogy is weak. Ghostbusters should have killed it. It didn't because they replaced iconic male characters with moderately funny female characters. And yet, here we go again with pushing female leads in roles even if they may not be the best choice to fill those roles. It is definitely a political agenda. Losing money is just collateral damage. They have plenty of money to lose.

You just believe that because you want to believe it. You want some reason to rage against them putting women in these roles, but you don't really have one other than it threatens you in some way. The bagel analogy is solid.

There is no grand conspiracy. Feminists are not going to enslave men and destroy your way of life. But the world is going to change. You can't do shit about that.

I believe it because it is true.

I don't feel threatened by Hollywood casting females in more lead roles, I just hate seeing my favorite franchises destroyed by forcing females into rolls that might have been better suited for a male. I would have loved to see a good Ghostbusters film since I am a fan of the original. It was a waste to miscast the lead characters, but again Hollywood can afford to take the hit.

Star Trek is sure inconsistent when it comes to accents. Scott and Chekhov had accents, Uhuru and Sulu didn't. This captain has a Chinese accent.

Meh.

Never seen that. Does that seem Like a good thing?
Page was the creature designer for ST:ITD and beyond. Hetrick is a popular designer and known for creating some pretty cutting edge make up and practical effects. They are big names in the industry, but do favor some crazy designs.

Meh.
Should we try and guess what kind of accent Jason Issac's will use? I'm hoping for moody Andorian, not his normal condescending British.

So fucking stupid
Somewhere along the way it got lost, and we ain't ever getting it back

Not this;

I really enjoyed that movie, Kate McKinnon as Jillian Holtzmann is probably my favorite character of the franchise.

As for star trek? We've already had this;

I was disappointed with her but that's mainly because she was a last minute replacement for Geneviève Bujold, who I was really excited about; excellent actress.

And are you really saying that because we've already had one female captain/main protagonist, and you didn't like her, we should never have another one ever again?

Scarface will probably be a woman in the new Scarface remake.

There have been ruthless, powerful female crime lords in popular fiction for quite some time. Some of the best criminals on television recently have been women.

Doubt it would work with Scarface, though, and hard to imagine them even trying.

I can't believe people have their panties in a twist because there are women in leading roles still.

All the hundreds and hundreds of titles with male leads isn't enough for you? Do you have to lament with each non-male lead that's cast?

It's not too dissimilar from those lamenting whenever a non-white lead in a show or movie is cast. It gets the Trump supporting mouthbreathers in a frenzy.

Ghostbusters 2016 had an agenda and clearly it didn't work.

As for a female captain, you could try it again but tread lightly as it takes a special actress that can pull off an authorative tone without sounding like a cartoon.

thr captain is the centerpieces of the story and I see those pieces as being in the middle of any conflict, like Kirk should be placed in situations where they have to fight one on one.

Having the second as that role as they did in next gen can work but that's because the stories next gen told were not usually about wars or battles. And he still was the centerpiece in most stories.

Star Trek has no "force" equalizer that would ever make me feel that I'd want to see some 110 pound female captain square up against some large alien gorn type creature.

All theatrical releases in North America have the same agenda: Make as much money as possible. End of story. They spent 144 million making the new Ghostbusters, you think the people investing that money cared at ALL about anything else? I don't. And, although it bombed, I thought it was really funny and entertaining. A lot of people decided this was going to be terrible before they even saw it. It was pretty good.

It takes a special kind of actor period to speak with authority; women don't have to be better actors than men to take that role.

And I think it's pretty a pretty weird requirement that a captain of a starship should be a physical specimen, Kirk getting into fist fights was so ridiculous the franchise made fun of itself for doing it. The better shows almost universally have secondary characters that handle the fisticuffs.

It's a universal constant.

When a paradigm shifts, even slightly, there's resistance.

Well you can think that but uhhh you be wrong.

Lol.

Archer was in the muck of it on enterprise, Picard was in the muck of it next gen as was sisko.

The captain is the centerpiece.

Janeway sound like mouse when she tried to butch up during intense scenes and wasn't part of most of the intimate 1 on 1 confrontations. So missing out on those personal encounters detracts from building her character as the leader.

There's reasons why the show sucked fella.

Voyager was incredible, and Janeway was off the charts bad-ass, especially in the finale, where she sacrificed herself to destroy the Borg Collective. The last few seasons were about as good as DS9, which is as good as it gets.

It sucked for you because it didn't have starship captains mud wrestling, and it was packed with strong female characters.

By the way, "the captain is the centerpiece" is your private, meaningless rule. The main protagonist is whoever they make it. Star Trek is typically an ensemble show with the focus being on different characters depending on the episode. TOS was almost exclusively focused on Kirk but the show has gotten further and further away from that formula with time.

Look, I get what you like and why you like it. It isn't for me to tell you what I like is better. I loved Voyager and Janeway, and you don't. That's fine.

I just hope whichever way they go with these new shows, they do it well.

Well whatever fella. Your understanding of great storytelling and character development and investment sucks.

I've tried to explain it to you twice now but you keep stomping your feet parading around how much you liked two star trek shows that were generally poorly received compared to their predecessors.

Understanding why it's brilliant that the borg assimilated picard and not riker is an impossible task because you simply don't "get" it.

The captain in these shows is the centerpiece. I can't have some chick who sounds like a mouse be the centerpiece.

Just can't have it.

Ah.

I enjoy and respect women, and need more than stereotypes.

I must suck.

in terms of story telling...I guess you do.

i love how you wanna try and twist this into sexism because you are a delicate little liberal nancy.

Has nothing to do with sexism. Some sexes are better at certain roles than others.

Just the way it is.

A female COULD pull it off but you'd have an easier time finding a male.
