Of course not. There are obviously other movies out there where they cast women in leading roles, and those movies did well. You would have to be incredibly stupid to believe that they would purposefully lose money on movies to further some ideology. If they make more movies where they replace traditionally male characters with female characters, and they all bomb, they will stop doing that.
But Ghostbusters was shit. And it wasn't simply because they cast women. It just sucked dicks. I think they all know that, and that's why they are trying the same formula again, but with different characters and scripts. Because they think it will make money.
Your bagel analogy is weak. Ghostbusters should have killed it. It didn't because they replaced iconic male characters with moderately funny female characters. And yet, here we go again with pushing female leads in roles even if they may not be the best choice to fill those roles. It is definitely a political agenda. Losing money is just collateral damage. They have plenty of money to lose.
