i liked keatons take on the vulture, probably the best mcu villain; loved how he treated his criminal enterpise the same way he treated his business.. budgeted..plans.. blue prints..diverting resources and manpower.

its what made him so successful and able to stay under the radar so long... and he was a non super human but had a sense of menace..an the look..he looked genuinely scary..intimidating.

my fav part of movie is how scared spidey was when stark popped out the suit..son was shook

Enjoyed it. It wasn't "epic" but it was great, new take on the character in the movie universe. Loved Keaton. Can't wait to see how/if they bring him back. Didn't like all the tech in the suit, especially since Peter didn't make any of it. I understand he created the web shooters, but Tony took it to another level that was probably unnecessary.

Box office update - Crossed $300 million in the U.S.

Domestically it has grossed 40 mil more than the Amazing Spider-Man and 102 mil more than AS2 , with will pass AS2 in worldwide gross shortly but may come up short of the Amazing Spider-Man Wordwide gross by a few mil, go figure.

Finally got around to seeing it and after all the fanfare surrounding it I'm afraid to say I found it rather disappointing. It was aight but nothing much I havent seen before in the spidey movies. I didnt have a problem with his geeky little Asian comedic sidekick or his new love interest being of non caucasian persuasion but (and I know this has probably already been done to death) I think casting the little Indian dude as Flash was just a step too far and he didnt work afaic. This shoehorning in of ethnic actors into roles previously created as white characters just feels so blatantly forced now as to be quite embarassing.

My main issue was the pacing and after a good start my interest really started to wane. Keaton was a great villain, both menacing yet relatable but he just didnt have enough screen time and the action scenes were also a bit too epileptic and Michael Bayesque for my liking. I give it a 6 and I think thats generous.

I watched this movie. Thought it was perfect. The most grounded comic book movie since the dark knight.

So disappointed that people have rated this movie low because Spider-Man didn't have to stop a giant blue laser in the sky or that his love interest didn't have red hair.

This movie made sense. How you gonna have a super smart genius be spider man without being obvious to others? Surround him with other super smart kids so his behavior isn't odd.

Super smart schools are filled with people with dark skin. That's not forced diversity. It's a fact.

Super smart schools don't usually have 6'4 blonde haired jocks. The face of bullying is different in 2017.

My apologies to all who want the spider man cast to look like an Archie comic book.

For those complaining about the tech, how do you explain how peter Parker can just hold his own. How do you explain how he can do all those things with web shooters? How do you give him a spider sense that can be taken away at anytime? How do you fill the silence of a hero who spends most of his time alone? Give him a suit.

The movie made perfect Comic sense.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Writers Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers Returning for Sequel

Screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are back in the spider's web. The duo, who worked on Spider-Man: Homecoming, are in final negotiations to return to the world of Peter Parker to write the sequel to the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios hit.

Homecoming, a resetting of Sony's Spider-Man franchise that places the new movies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was a major hit for Sony, winning over critics and the comic book fans. It spun over $319 million domestically at the box office, $737 million worldwide. (The previous entry, the derided Amazing Spider-Man 2, grossed $202 million domestically and $708 million worldwide.)

Sony and Marvel are hoping to keep many of the creative elements of Homecoming together and are already in talks to have Jon Watts return to the director's chair. Tom Holland is set to return as the web-crawling hero.

Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is scheduled for a July 5, 2019, release.

McKenna and Sommers hail from the comedy and animation world, having been writer-producers on American Dad and Community (separately, McKenna wrote on The Mindy Project with Sommers working on Happy Endings and Marry Me). The duo worked on The Lego Batman Movie and wrote on Sony and Marvel's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Ant-Man and the Wasp movies, respectively, before coming on board Homecoming.

HOMECOMING Opens to Historic $70.8M in China; Becomes 2nd Highest Grossing Spidey Film Worldwide to Date

g2LkT4t.jpg

Spider-Man: Homecoming is off to a historic start in China. The once high-stakes Sony-Marvel reboot swung to a stunning $70.8 million opening weekend — the Middle Kingdom's third-best superhero debut ever.

Homecoming not only opened at the top of the franchise, it's also already beaten the entire China totals of every other Spidey film save The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which eventually reached $94.4 million in 2014 — a high mark that Homecoming will cleanly clear later this week.

The film performed predictably well on Imax, earning $6 million from 442 screens and notching the giant-screen exhibitor's best September weekend ever. It also marks Sony's best Chinese Imax bow to date.

For 2017 overall, Homecoming's opening haul ranks fifth for U.S. studio titles in China, trailing only The Fate of the Furious ($184.9 million), Transformers: The Last Knight ($119.7 million), Resident Evil: The Final Chapter ($94.3 million), and Kong: Skull Island ($71.6 million). It easily beat both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($48.5 million) and Wonder Woman ($37.7 million).

Overall, the Marvel/Sony co-production has earned over $823 million worldwide ($327.7M domestic, $495.3M international) and has surpassed Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman ($816.3M) to become the sixth-highest grossing movie of the year.

Homecoming has also surpassed Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man to become the second highest-grossing Spidey film to date.

Wow it opened so late in China compared to the other markets.

I wonder why is that, how do they decide on that what were they trying to avoid on earlier dates.

Also 70 mill still has nothing on what those Fast and Furious movies and Transformers do in China. :D

Ok.. there is this movie in China:

Wolf Warrior 2 that made 850 mill $ damn... so Spidey was avoiding this Wolf part 2.

China bans imported movies on summer and national holidays to boost their local films.

Not if they have Vin Diesel in them they don't. :D

If they ever make a giant robot movie with Vin in it then that will be the new record holder.

Impressive given the long delay, considering most of those who wanted to see it probably found an "alternative" already...

Uhm, there already is one. Maybe i'm just bad at picking up subtle irony/sarcasm...

I'm thinking more of combine Fast and Furious with Transformers = move over Avatar.

Fast 7 = 391 mill in China
Fast 8 = 393 mill in China
Jurassic World = 229 mill in China
Transformers with Wahlberg = 320 mill in China
Last Transformers, real stinker of a movie and still = 229 mill in China

If I'm a big studio head I know what I have to do. :D

Oh and stay away from space.. China doesn't like space even if you use their actors, build them giant LightSabers, Death Stars buildings and make a wall out of Stormtroopers it's still a no go. I bet this year they won't drop 100 mill in marketing for the Chinese no more they didn't get it back enough to warrant it.
Force Awakens = 124 mill
Rogue One = 69 mill

I know, i get it, i was just playing the Iron Giant card.

And yes, China is a tricky market for Star Wars. Even a bunch of actors from China and Hong Kong did not manage to persuade them to watch Rogue One. I don't think the space thing is the key here, it's (as other sources say) the fact that the main movie goers grew up in the late 80s and the fact that prequels were not shown in China.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Becomes Highest Grossing Superhero Movie of 2017
(So Far)

f5nELdj.png

Just two weeks ago, Spider-Man: Homecoming crossed the milestone figure of $800 million worldwide, and now it has emerged as the highest-grossing superhero movie of the year, according to Exhibitor Relations. The movie has nudged its way up the list of superhero movies’ performance at the box office through a solid showing in China.

Wonder Woman may have been the break-through hit of the year that grossed more than anyone expected, but these latest stats prove that Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming is the biggest superhero movie of the year — so far.

Homecoming has beaten out Logan and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, though both Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League are yet to be released. The latter is tracking for a big $150 million opening weekend, so there’s a chance it may over take Tom Holland’s first solo movie as the wall-crawler.

Spider-Man: Homecoming has dominated The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s $709 million, The Amazing Spider-Man’s $759.9 million, and Spider-Man 2’s $783.3 million. The movie is now the eighth highest-grossing superhero movie ever, taking over Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which finished at $868 million worldwide. This total leaves Homecoming $20 million behind the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie ever, Spider-Man 3.

This movie put up some impressive figures

At a total domestic gross of CN¥5.62 billion (USD$870.4 million),[7] it is the 2nd highest-grossing film of all-time in a single market behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.7 million in North America), and having exceeded North America's totals from Avatar ($760 million), Titanic ($659 million) and Jurassic World ($652 million).[8][9][10] The film is currently the 4th highest-grossing film of 2017 at US$870.4 million, making it the 55th all-time highest-grossing film worldwide[11][12] and is the first and only non-Hollywood film ever to be included in the list of 100 all-time highest-grossing films worldwide.[13][14]

I laughed at it's tagline:

Whoever offends the Chinese will be wiped out no matter how far away.
