Special Forces Influencers

Same same. I have a bunch of Lt’s and upstairs brass with limited nozzle time, and basically zero wheel time driving apparatus. It sucks for them, because driving spots would have them waiting forever, but it sucks for me having an LT tell me how to use my fire truck not knowing it’s true limits or strengths.

That’s why I liken it to the military. You have you officer who “leads” the crew, and your Senior Ladder/Pump Driver who like NCO’s actually make it all work.

Basic Coastguard here, none of that jumping out of helicopters or rolling boats in the surf.

Did a little Search and Rescue and LE in my early days, but now have more fun working buoys (is nerve racking moving a 4k concrete sinker around on deck trying to hold the boat steady in seas next to a rocky shoal though)

Worked my way from E-nothing to an Senior Chief in charge of my own unit though. More time driving a desk than a boat now, but still get my time in underway and show the young ones how it's done.

Never believe any stories that make person A seem cool, badass, dangerous, etc, when the source of information is person A.

We on this forum should know that better than anyone, since we're all familiar with Frank Dux.

That's why I never believed that one dude with the black hair and beard who wrote books about how badass he was.

The one guy that seems real to me is Jocko. But I've only heard him as a guest on Rogan, I don't actually listen to his own podcast.

Doesn't surprise me that others are trying to tear him down though. It's just like beefs in the rap world, it's all for publicity and clicks.

Same with prison channels... a bunch of guys saying how though they are.

Send them to sparr Strickland IMO.
People seem think special ops guys or gangsters can beat trained fighters in a fight because they "fight to kill." As if they do anywhere near the amount of hand to hand training as career fighters do.
I'd bet that a high level MMA fighter does more MMA training than a SEAL does training required for his respective job in the same time frame.

That's why I believe all the Nick Cage stories from @Slobodan because it's coming from a trusted source.

I've seen a few guys going after that Jocko guy a lot recently. Some have even accused him of straight up murder. Even stating he allowed Kyle to kill people at will. I'm not saying any of it did or didn't happen. I'm just repeating what was said.

I will say, I have deployed to Afghanistan (a few times) and have met several SF guys. No, I'm not SF and never tried to be.
What's the deal with Jocko and the alleged murder?

I just found out about the case of 2 SEALs and 2 MARSOC guys trying to embezzle money and murdering the green beret guy who was going to blow the whistle on them.

I work Air Force Special Operations and had a lot of experience working with these types of guys; SEALS, MARSOC, AFSOC, etc. One thing I've learned to be true can be summed up thusly...

The ones that do the cool stuff don't talk about it. The ones that talk about it, didn't do the cool stuff.

Obvious exceptions, but this seems to be the rule.

What's even more funny is hearing these guys talk about the more high profile operators like Kyle, Jocko, Lutrell, and Goggins.

A friend of the family served with the OG SAS in North Africa during WWII. Fought alongside Paddy Mayne, who to this day is a legend in the SAS. He never went into detail about what he saw or did.

My grandfather served in North Africa and Italy. He probably had more combat experience than a lot of Special Forces guys today. Again, he almost never discussed it. And in those days, there was no such thing as PTSD; after six years of war, he was given a, "demob suit" and train ticket to the nearest station to his home. Anything psychological effects from years of combat were his problem.

Dick Marchinko?

Yeah this guy. He always rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it's the way he marketed himself. The photos of him holding guns just seemed kind of cheesy.

Really? Doing what?

worked. typo, I retired in 2023.

I coordinated training events for special operations. So if MARSOC wanted to do some training with TACP and Gunships, I'd help facilitate that. I also worked with coalition forces for training. So I'd help coordinate training events with coalition partners like British, Australian and NZ forces.

I've dealt with all forms of special forces and special operators, and they tend to feel the same way about the more high profile operators, and it's not very good. That's not a blanket statement for everyone, but everyone that I have met feeling that way isn't a stretch.

So most of it is bullshit right? Goggins lost my respect a bit when he started going back and forth with Strickland about how he couldn't hang in training with him.
It seems these guys are using the label of having been a SEAL as a brand to make money.

I met one Army SF guy and he didn't really talk about much about his time in Afghanistan other than that he had PTSD from firefights. Said he couldn't sleep for a months after he got back home.

I didn't expect to see an operator on this forum.

I'll say this: I regret paying to see Lone Survivor and American Sniper. And I'll never do another Murph WOD again.

I wasn't an Operator, I was a special mission planner and training coordinator. If other operators wanted to train and play with air force assets I'd coordinate that. So a lot of behind closed door meetings in which topics sometimes went in that direction.

Crazy how they were all there at the inauguration. Almost like they're being rewarded for accomplishing an objective.

He was in charge of the squad, so complicit in murder and war crimes would probably be a better way to phrase.

Remember how Tenet Media was busted paying Russian money to US influencers for them to plug Russia Today's talking points?

Finding one drug tunnel across the border and shutting it down doesn't mean we found every tunnel that was there.

that's cool. i was tentmates with some pj's for a few days once. They all seemed like normal dudes. And i met some ravens a few times and they were much less normal lol. And i can imagine most special forces feeling some kind of way listening to jockoo and people like that.

Know another Marine from my time at 4th ANGLICO, that was with 5th ANGLICO in Ramadi.

He corroborated what lots of the Marines from 3/8 said about Task Unit Bruiser (Jocko was their commander), that lead to our brothers getting killed.

Ravens are nothing special. Just security forces on flying status. So just flying security teams.
