It's common. I don't know all the intricacies of how it works but it seems to me like your brain thinks of something you're not supposed to say/do and then it does it before you can stop yourself.

I remember watching an interview where one lady said when she was alone in an elevator with a black man then she started saying the N-word. When that's not typically a word she says in her normal ticks.

Thankfully the guy could tell she had some kind of issue so he didn't get offended.
