The "one move wonder" guy
This is the guy who manages to get really good at one position/submission and only goes for that one particular move. While somewhat impressive in the beginning, this is the eternal blue belt that dominates the beginners but never develops the rest of his game. Normally seen with a bronze or silver medal at the local tourneys.

I'm actually a bunch of these and I've met dudes like the other ones. I'm probably the Gasser, the whatcha weigh guy, the ADD guy, I gotta go guy sometimes, the risk taker, and thanks to meeting the "give no time to tap guy", im also the pre excuse guy with two fucked up elbows
 
I am the wrestler but I have an open mind and I try to pick up on as much jiu jitsu technique as possible. I try not to use my wrestling takedowns.
 
the "tougher old guy" I have guys come up to me amazed I do two and three classes a night at 40 years old and always make myself available to roll with the higher belts since most of the blues and lower avoid most of them like the plague.

I don't bike to and from home though, too dark for that crap.
 
holy crap thats long, my favorites are the de man izer, the holder, the sweating guy (worst is the drop if sweat directly in ur eye andthere is no time to wipe it bc you almost have the choke or something) the professor...

I think It depends on the situation, I sometimes that one and sometimes that one
 
somewhere between the natural and The Can you Show that Again Guy -- This guy never has a good enough angle when the instructor demonstrates the move. Once the drilling begins, he usually has to watch the people next to him do the move at least two or three times before attempting it himself. He sometimes resorts to calling the instructor over and asking a question before he even attempts the move.

"just got back from Rio guy?"
This guy is good, and since he just spent 6 months training his ass off in Rio he is super smooth. But he wants to make his home school into the place he trained in Rio. He shakes hands with everyone in the room before sitting down to stretch asking "tudo bem?" He answer's his cell phone "fala". He speaks in portuguese with the instructor when he talks about how to beat someone without wanting them to know it. He counts in portuguese. If you want to get on his good side and get him to show you some cool **** he learned down south, just ask him about his time in Rio, he will be more than happy to tell you about it. Everyone who goes to brasil is guilty of this when they get back...


I think the shaking the hands is fucking sweet, but people most likely wont appreciate it when they are warming up, brasilians dont seem to mind.

I also think talking in Portuguese to people who dont speak/counting in Portuguese it is corny, even if your instructor is brasilian.
 
I'm a 3 way tie between: The natural, the humble f you up guy, and the getting serious again guy.

Since I did martial arts for so much of my life, stuff comes easy to me, so I tend to get lazy and take a week off here and there, which ends up being a lot of time in the end. I'm always telling people, "this time I'm gonna go at it hard for real." I have the Karo/BJ Penn syndrome, though I'm not nearly as good as either one of their toes.

I'm just saying a lot of times I feel like I'm wasting a lot of ptential because I could be very very good, but I KNOW that and that's my problem. I always think, well I can always decide to rev it up soon, and I just procrastinate.

I'm also too nice. I need to learn to be a more aggresive. I grapple way too relaxed. I don't wanna use strength and be stiff and dangerous so I go the opposite route. My goal for 2009 is to meet in the middle.
 
i guess im this Dominic's Apprentice - goes to class 4-5 days a week, works his ass off. But no matter how hard he tries he just doesn't get any better. He�ll get caught in the exact same armbar 10 times a roll. He still can't defend the triangle choke. And he gets mounted by everyone.
i always get into triangle after i open guard
 
im that lazy but knows what to do, but wants to help others so sets himself up for submissions and taps a lot guy....

mixed with..

the lazy guy who knows what to do but for some dumb reason or another doesnt apply what he knows and usually gets tapped by guys right below his level on up...

i think i have come to the conclusion that i am lazy and should work on doing what i know...
 
I am trying to prove this thread wrong and making the leg lock hero a viable tactic
 
Im:
the pretzel- Whenever we drill shoulder locks people freak out when my arm twists 5 times further back than it should need to to cause pain and usually after the holds released i get "Dude, thats just f***ing wrong/weird/scary" etc.

The professor- Only against EXTREMELY new guys, like walk in triallers etc, like to give them a hand to get it right so they wont feel crap when i just sit there telling them its not in and will be motivated to come back again. I know when i first started i had no idea if i was doing it right. Never on a guy thats been there more than a few weeks though, Im newish after all as well.

The Natural- I hate to nominate myself for this, but BJJ just clicks in my head, it makes sense and i rarely have to see a move demo'd twice. Always get comments like "Dude how long have you been training" when a more experienced guy cant tap me etc. And my instructor has given me compliments in regard to how well ive come along, suggesting im ready to jump up a class already. Quite happy to accept it if it really is true, but not something you really want to nominate yourself for hey?

Knight of the Realm: Plays hugely defensive, and rarely goes on the all out attack.

Id be part of that as well.

I would say a bit of a natural.. I only wrestled for one year in high school so I didn't learn many bad habits. I learn fast and im naturally athletic. I don't talk at all... I just roll.

I went against a laugher the other day.. it was so fucking annoying..... he tapped me though :/
