How is that relevant? We are talking about a wall to keep out illegal immigration, drugs and crime from Mexico, Israel put up a wall to keep out illegal immigration and terrorism, and it seemed to work very well.
israel also systematically murdered palestinians at the same time.

Yes, it takes a year when the government is involved.
"Tesla's enormous battery in Australia is responding to outages in record time"

If Elon Musk can set up a backup battery system for South Australia's power grid, in way less than a year, what is Trump's excuse?

In March, Musk, who is known for setting high goals and only sometimes meeting them, vowed on Twitter to deliver a battery system for South Australia's struggling grid within 100 days or it would be free. By early July, the state had signed a deal with California-based Tesla and the French-based energy company Neoen to produce the battery. And by Dec. 1, South Australia announced it had switched on the Hornsdale battery.

Elon musk is a genius and trump doesnt even believe in pollution, you do the math (unless u are a trump supporter, then you likely cant do the math)

I dont follow american politics too much but im curious what ever happened with the wall thing? Did u guys start building it yet?

You have to think of The Wall metaphysically. Now, what does the wall represent as a symbol???
Well, it is that we want to have borders and to enforce them and not let people here illegally. All the brick and mortar mean nothing without having these as principles first.

Now, Trump has put ICE back to work after a 8 year vacation so that is something.

So, you are asking what is the difference between making something with no political red tape and would help keep emergency cost low and does not need to be put through congress and senate and courts vs making something with incredible red tape and cost and needs to be put through congress and senate and courts

Is this really the comparison you are making here????

If so, What advantages does this motor car have over, say, a train, which I could also afford?

If you think Congress is the hangup, how many bills has he proposed to get the wall started?

Surely he hasnt done nothing.

Elon was on Trump's advisory board. I think he left??

I am not saying build the whole wall in a year, I was merely expecting him to atleast have the design finished and installed in a small section. How much red tape does he need to battle just to build a test section of the wall along a small stretch of the border. He has had tremendous international pressure to overcome with his embassy move, but he still did it.

You got hit with a $1 million retroactive tax increase and your post doesnt seem to be mad. What gives?

It was pretty clear that it was coming so we priced appropriately and set the money aside. Essentially, the tariff has been discussed for a few years now. The surprise was the larger amount retroactiviley.

Most competitors are moving to Vietnam but the entire production capacity for that country is sold out for the next 18 months. We are moving production to Mexico.

Illegal immigration from the Southern border was a problem of the early Aughts and has been mostly licked already (net border crossings have been negative for a while now). But targeting employers would end it. That's not the goal, though.

No one would disagree with targeting employers. The real question is, would they all leave if they werent hired? If they are single, yes, they would leave. If they have kids, no way are they leaving. They can receive all kinds of aid through their children, and send them to school. In the meantime, the fathers figure out ways to earn money under the table.

We cannot drive them out. We must slow them from getting in. That is the only way.

So it's a tariff solely on Chinese wood?

Why? Dumping?

I heard the Chinese had great success with theirs.

Is this a joke? The Great Wall didn't work, the wall built by the sassanids did not work, and Hadrian's Wall didn't work either.

On Chinese made plywood. Most of the actual wood used to make the plywood is from Russia and North America. The government claims dumping and there is some evidence to support the claim. I suspect it will hurt some Chinese cities a bit but the jobs are unlikely to come back to US. It only took us about 10 days to switch our supply line to Mexico and much of the industry was already shifting away from China to Vietnam and Thailand because China had become too expensive

Got it. Walls don't work, except for that one.
That's not the point. Of course a wall would work to stop people from walking over to the US. A mine field would be even better and cheaper.
But it's not the most efficient way, the most efficient way is to go after employers. Going after employers would not only curb walk-in migration but also all other kinds of illegal immigration, be it by land, boat or air.

Israel case is a bit different, they're not even trying to stop illegal migration, they're trying to stop suicide bombers and other kinds of terrorists. You can't stop a car loaded with explosives by going after employers. A simple fence would also not be enough.

A better example, I believe, would be Hungary. They stopped the migrant flow with a fence and police. But they actually had a serious problem at the time, over a million migrants were trying to cross there on their way to Germany and they were laying destruction in their path. If a similar thing was happening in the US, a fence backed by cops would be more effective than a huge concrete wall.

actually, the wall did work. the problem was Ming dynasty collapsed from the inside due to civil war and peasant uprising.

also, the great wall was mostly used as a 'freeway' to assemble chinese soldiers against the northern invaders

Why? With Trump as head honcho, he could have fast-tracked it through. It didn't a year for Trump to change with US policy and authorize the US embassy moving to Jerusalem , which takes a lot of diplomatic capital and overcoming tremendous international pressure.
Trump and his party control all branches. They could get through a bill saying we have to wear under pants on our head if they really wanted to. Let alone something for what he campaigned on.

The reality is that anyone who isn't a lowest common denominator mouth breathing moron knows it's a stupid waste of money. Hence why the GOP hasn't and won't seriously pursue it.
