It's pretty unanimous that Conor gassed big time in the second. He was out-punching Diaz comfortably through the first, Diaz landed a reasonable one-two and Conor gassed out at the flip of a switch. It didn't look like it hurt him, but he was broken within seconds after that shot, Diaz could see it, and he swarmed a defenseless MGregor.

Conor has never been taken to deep waters, granted, but we've seen him go 3 rounds comfortably with Holloway and he was also still fresh taking Mendez out late in the second. So, why did he gas so bad against Diaz? There's three possible answers:

1) the weight. The opposite to usual weight excuses - maybe packing on all that WW size at the last minute meant his cardio wasn't used to carrying it?

2) Conor was hurt from those early punches in the second. Maybe he was wobbly and couldn't recover from a swarming Diaz?

3) Disheartened by both Diaz's ability to weather his storm, and his own inability to put him away. Conor lit Diaz up in the first with easy combinations and although he busted him up a bit - Diaz cranked it up in the second. For the first time in his career, an opponent didn't crumble straight off the bat and Conor lost confidence.

What we can take away from this though is that all hype trains that seem unreasonable....usually are, Also that you can NEVER count a Diaz out of a fight.

He's used to bullying his opponents. He couldn't bully Nate. He lost.

He gassed cuz diaz was making him miss obviously. That boxing talent

Simple: Not enough cardio. Diaz are endurance guys. Go hard or go home, mofo.

He throws nothing but power shots, Nate's reach was giving him trouble and Nate's chin, he ate everything and stayed in there. Conor wasn't able to close the show in the first round and we saw him gas.

He ate a shot and had an adrenaline dump. It was a very sudden drop in energy. He could be right that being more economical could have helped, but it was like night and day after he took that shot. Nate's fists are what opened up the gas tank.

From being punched in the mouth by a fat boy off the beaches of Cabo.

Conor gets gassed because he trains with guys that can't hurt him.

It's hard to take shots and keep going when you dont take any hard shots in training.

He was throwing bombs that missed. And instead of training on cardio he works on movement.

Conor's high finishing rate has to do with the fact that he tends to be a high pressure fighter. Nate is also a pressure fighter. Since Nate was able to take Conor's big shots (Credit to Nate), things became a lot harder.

Very impressive that Nate maintained energy advantage in a short camp.

he didn't gas, his arms were too short.

He needs to fight guys with shorter arms that lunge at him. Kinda like what he was tonite

He's a front runner. When Nate didn't just fall down from one of those Dim-mak left hand shots, he folded.

2) Conor was hurt from those early punches in the second. Maybe he was wobbly and couldn't recover from a swarming Diaz?

I saw a gif, provided by a Sherdog member in another post, of McGregor getting tagged with one of the crucial lefts courtesy of Diaz. McGregor couldn't even put his eyes on Nate after he got tagged with the left; I would pick #2.

By the way, your avatar is extremely hilarious.

He swung as hard as he could with every shot.

Fighting a bigger man and carrying a heavier weight that his body is not accustomed to carrying while competing.

He was used to guys going down with the punches he threw but he picked one of the most durable guys in the division to showcase his power at 155.

He was fighting the US cover curse. Impossible to beat.
