So lets hear it. Why did McGregor gas?

He was shook after a bloodied Nate smiled at him. He was mentally broken at that point. His gas tank followed suit.

Conor wasnt used to his opponent being able to take his punches and also wasnt used to eating punches.

He threw a lot of overhand lefts with a shit ton of power behind them, they didn't put Diaz away. Then he got hit in the face a lot.

he was bullying Nate though, and he takes shots better than almost anyone..... this is like the first time he's been hurt in the UFC
Takes shots better than almost anyone? Sorry, but this is FAR from the truth I don't even get how you could say that. Unless you haven't seen many UFC fights.

Because he was the shorter man that had to dive in and out just to get one punch in on Nate. That takes energy.

you clearly havent, he took Mendes best shots.... including a vicious elbow whilst his head was planted on the matt, like they were nothing. got up and KO'd him

thats not normal

He gassed cuz diaz was making him miss obviously. That boxing talent
I think his spinning shit had a lot to do with it. I remember him throwing fast spinning back kicks when Buffer was announcing. All I could think was, "save your tank, you're fighting one of the craziest endurance fighters in the sport."
I felt that Diaz had a good 1st round but apparently I'm in the minority. He hit Conor a lot with that jab. I think Conor was feeling the punches mostly there. He was rocked, he didn't just gas.
He was slipping most of those jabs. He even made a thing of it at one point - dropping his head low and egging Diaz to throw a jab. He wasted a ton of energy avoiding Diaz'd shots in the first. I think he forgot to add the energy it takes to go on constant defense with a Diaz into account.

Even the most economical and cardio reliant fighters seem to gas with the volume the Diaz boys bring.

GnP almost never finishes opponents who aren't already rocked. Very rarely there are TKOs. Never in my life seen a GnP KO though on an opponent who wasn't dropped standing. Even Fedor on Nog didn't get a TKO. Not surprised he took the elbow.

For some reason it's easier to finish someone standing.

There have been times where he has shown toughness, and there have been times where he looks like he hates being hit like tonight. Wouldn't say he takes a better shot than any other tough fighter in the UFC, not by any stretch. He doesn't like getting hit AT ALL judging by this performance. He went to panic mode, turned his back quick. Hated getting tagged.

Conor eats plenty of punches. I rewatched all his fights leading up to this and I was surprised that he wore more damage in his UFC fights than I remember. Poirier tagged him, Mendes laid big punches on him, even Diego landed solid punches. It never registers at the time because Conor always shook his head and fired back with harder shots.

Conor always gets hit, which is why I don't think him gassing tonight had a lot to do with the punishment from Diaz. Maybe Diaz's punches just rattled him more.

he puts so much energy in those power lefts and Nate just kept eating them.

Didn't gas simply got beat up

Looked mostly that way to me, maybe slowed slightly but honestly in an aggressive standup match like that I think its to be expected but it was only when Nate rocked him the first time he slowed down a lot.

The big issue as I thought it might be was Nate's reach, Conor isn't used to fighting opponents with similar or greater reach than him and as a result his defence being decent but not nearly as good as his offence was exposed.

you clearly were watching a different fight than I was

After rewatching the fight i dont think it had anything to do with gassing out from "throwing haymakers" or anything like that.
Conor was full of energy bouncing around up until 2:22 left in the 2nd round when Nate tagged him with a 1-2, from then on his legs turned to jelly, his arms got heavy, and he started backpedalling big time.
I dont think Conor has a very good chin, or recovering ability
