So lets hear it. Why did McGregor gas?

Poor fight IQ.

Once he realized Nate wasn't going to drop from a straight left he should have stayed outside and worked Diaz's leg with kicks.

He spent a lot of energy head hunting and lost a lot of energy eating shots in return.

He has more tools in his belt than boxing but outside of a few high kicks he didn't use them.

They all turn into wrestlers. Conor had that shit correct.

I saw him wobbled by strikes but not significantly gassed.
When one falls via Diaz punches it is never sudden.

I felt that Diaz had a good 1st round but apparently I'm in the minority. He hit Conor a lot with that jab. I think Conor was feeling the punches mostly there. He was rocked, he didn't just gas.

He was throwing everything he had at Nate and Nate fucking took it and smiled at him, slapped him and shit. That takes something out of you. I've had a couple of fights where I got my ass handed to me after beating the fuck out of someone for a round or two and they are just taking it and at least trying to fire back. My confidence in my power and my training disappeared faster than Dana White at the post fight presser tonight.

He was throwing a lot of punches as hard as he could and Nate was making him miss. Missing punches is really tiring because you have to exert energy to stop the punch as well as throw it. When you throw full force punches and miss over and over then you are going to gas, no matter how good of shape you are in.

It's pretty unanimous that Conor gassed big time in the second. He was out-punching Diaz comfortably through the first, Diaz landed a reasonable one-two and Conor gassed out at the flip of a switch. It didn't look like it hurt him, but he was broken within seconds after that shot, Diaz could see it, and he swarmed a defenseless MGregor.

Conor has never been taken to deep waters, granted, but we've seen him go 3 rounds comfortably with Holloway and he was also still fresh taking Mendez out late in the second. So, why did he gas so bad against Diaz? There's three possible answers:

1) the weight. The opposite to usual weight excuses - maybe packing on all that WW size at the last minute meant his cardio wasn't used to carrying it?

2) Conor was hurt from those early punches in the second. Maybe he was wobbly and couldn't recover from a swarming Diaz?

3) Disheartened by both Diaz's ability to weather his storm, and his own inability to put him away. Conor lit Diaz up in the first with easy combinations and although he busted him up a bit - Diaz cranked it up in the second. For the first time in his career, an opponent didn't crumble straight off the bat and Conor lost confidence.

What we can take away from this though is that all hype trains that seem unreasonable....usually are, Also that you can NEVER count a Diaz out of a fight.
he was trying to KO Nate with one shot, loading up on power shots is really tiring..... plus carrying the extra weight, and facing an opponent who not only hits harder but is more durable than anyone Conor had ever faced. Conor got rocked, panicked and thats when shit went downhill

I honestly think thats the first time Conor has been shook by a strike in his entire career

He gassed himself out with throwing nothing but crazy punches, a lot of people were saying that after the fight and Conor pretty much said the same thing. He wasnt efficient and threw haymakers all day missing a lot and thus what we saw

Conor looks like he gasses out if he can't finish the guy early with his overhand left spamming.

I thought it was due to the weight cut at FW but I guess not.

he didn't gas. he was dazed and confused from diaz's shots. that's what happens when you come up in weight. all of a sudden you ain't fighting midgets anymore. my GAWD RDA would've ended his life.

Two reasons:
1. He quickly realised that he couldn't bully Nate so it rattled him.
2. He doesn't like getting hit. This is pretty obvious, he copped one hard shot & it changed his whole demeanour.

145lb. full camp Conor was gassing vs Mendez. He put on 23 more lbs and his heart couldn't keep up with the mass increase.

When you get hit Stockton slap 10x in 1 round it takes its toll.

I think Conor got it right when he said he ought to of used his energy more sparingly because Nate took more punishment than Conor dished out to his previous seven opponents.

He gassed but he didn't do his "muvement" warm up long enough.

I think he gassed the same reason Ronda gassed. They both got used to fighting one round fights and they relied on it.

Conor was singing wildly in the first. You have to question if he even trains for a 3/5 round fight.

he was bullying Nate though, and he takes shots better than almost anyone..... this is like the first time he's been hurt in the UFC

Guys are usually on the floor after eating those left hands so he doesn't have to throw that many. Nate wasn't.
