Skyrim Special Edition

Been having problems binding to weapons. I bound my 1 key to a mace, but somehow my left hand has a healing spell. i wanted the 1 key to be mace right hand, shield left hand.

That's not possible. You can wield a shield in any hand, alone. But if you put a sword in your left hand, but you cannot equip a shield in your right. Don't ask me why, I don't know. That's how it is and you're gonna have to learn to like it! ;)

That should solve your key binding problem: the mace doesn't come up because you're wielding a shield in your right hand. Now bear with me because I'm gonna talk through my hat here. I believe you can bind multiple weapons to the same quick access key. I have not thoroughly tested it but it seems to be the case. It certainly is in Fallout 4, I do it all the time.

It means that if you bind your mace to 1 and bind your spell to 1 too, you can use 1 to bring up both. That must be why the 1 key brings a spell: you must have bound "healing" to the 1 key too! The way it works, if you have your mace in hand and press 1, it will switch to your spell. I'm not sure, I'm gonna test it as soon as I'm "back on duty" next Monday.

Maybe someone can confirm this sooner, I don't want to reset my rig just for a 2 minutes test. I very rarely use quick access keys so it has not been my focus at all. Thank you for bringing it up!

I'm not very familiar with Quick access keys. I never carry more than 2-3 weapons: my Khajiit Wrestler doesn't even carry one! (unless needed). I never carry a bow, I always get the Bound Bow spell before my first dragon. Quick access keys are pretty useless to me. If I wanted to use them for spells and abilities, I would have to write a list and always refer to it to see what key to press. I can't be bothered to commit these petty things to memory, it's pretty crowded in there!

That's the kind of carnage Khajiit hands can deliver:

You have not really played Skyrim until you have killed a dragon with your bare hands!

You have to bind your shield to another key to bring that up. Also remember that the keys work as an unequipped key as well. So if you press the key again it will unequipped the item and return what ever was in that hand before, except for spells, pressing the key a second time will equip the spell in both hands.

Damn you come from far, far away.

Pick up the less things possible: you have a carryweight limit so prioritize. You can boost your limit by boosting stamina when you level up. I would rather prioritize Health, a big carryweight limit is useless when dead. Go by weight when you prioritize. 1 gold / pound is the minimal limit but I put it way higher than that. I love Skyrim with the less interruptions possible, I manage next to nothing.

Fruits and Vegetable are not useful at lower difficulties. Don't mess with cooking and don't pick up food. Plants are different: they weight next to nothing and are useful in Alchemy. I would pick them up but they prolong your adventure if you go out of your way to do so. Only pick up plants when they enter your "personal bubble".

Books ARE useless once you have read them. Some give a free perk, others do nothings. Reading them is for you own pleasure only: you will learn Tamriel lore, nothing else. Pick them up only if you feel like reading. No need to carry them with you: they're rarely worth a penny. Pick them up if you want but drop them right then and there if you get overburdened.

If you follow the main story, you should reach Whiterun soon enough. If you talk to the Steward (attaché to the Yarl), he will sell you a house for 5000 gold. Once you buy it, you can breathe at last. There is a "safe" chest inside that house (Breezehome). You can store anything in there and it will remain.

Chests elsewhere are not safe: they will keep your items 2-3 days but after that, you won't find them anymore. Remember to sell valuables you don't need to spare room and make money. Money weights nothing, it's always better to sell a 30 pound armor for 60 gold than carrying it for nothing.

Remember to have fun and don't turn the game into a boring management task. It's really frustrating to open the inventory every 5 minutes to drop dead weigh. When you do that, Skyrim is not fun anymore...

@WorldofWarcraft
There is a small shack west of Rriverwood you can "take" as your own if you need a breathing space before getting to Whiterun. It's got everything you need in the early game.

Very rare video where he doesn't start straight away with "what's up guys, my name is Ee-Es-Oo." He waits a whole 7 seconds before throwing it!

Nice find @Higus : just like ESO says, I went nearby 250 times but never realized it was a safe house. Sure the cellar with crafting tables should have given me the hint but the alchimist gave me the impression I could not store items or get a owned bed there.

Seems I was wrong!

The "nigh eye" situation is particular but do you really need night eye?

I mean, caves can get very dark but rarely to the point of needing infravision. To be honest, I reached lvl 55 with my Kajiit Wrestler and I don't think I've used night eye once. If you have a follower with you, don't forget that you can give him/her a torch. He will equip it when it's dark but only outside of combat. He will switch back to weapon if ambushed, then take the torch out again when it's over.

I would say that's one of the main reason why I always have a follower with me.

As an archer thief, I prefer not to have a follower with me now. I simply don't need one. I have 100k worth of gold, I own and furnished all the houses (didn't venture in the other island so if there is a house there then i don't have that yet), eons of stuff that I can sell in all my stashes not counting ALL the magical items I stashed.

Do I need night eye... no. but I don't like straining my eyes and I don't want to raise the brightness on my tv. I just prefer using it.

I certainly understand and don't blame you. I don't see why a follower would plague an archer but I do get how they're annoying for a sneaky thief. I used to bring a follower back when I was playing a thief. My trick was to tell him "wait here" and go sneak my way to pickpocket or steal stuff.

In the end, I forgot to take him back so often, I just sent him away permanently. Especially since you need the console to find him and take him back when you tell him to stand by and forget. Like you, I would not bring a follower for a thief build but since I haven't played a thief in years, I guess I must have forgot...

They get in the way a lot, if they're a warrior. I was an archer on my first playthrough way back, and when my stats were godly, I could deplete their health accidentally with one shot if they stepped in front of my arrow. I've also mistakenly killed a couple who were taking a knee, and some have gone agro on me. They're good for crowd control, but they can be a pain with how reckless they are.

I try to keep my followers as ranged fighters now.

Speaking of Mods, the Roderick Redbeard mod is cool. Gives a bunch of kill boss quests then becomes a follower. Its pretty funny and the bosses are tough. I'm stuck on one right now but then again I'm only lvl 37. Cant seem to get him to take any damage.

Level 41 currently, finished the main quest, plus both DLC's main quests.

Finally finished my lakeview manor. I did the main story quests for both the Dark Brotherhood and Theives guild. But have some side stuff left to do for them.

Haven't tried the mods out yet (on xbox), wondering if there are any good story/questline mods out there?

Looks like Falskaar is available on xbox. Give that one a try bro

Does the remaster use a different game engine than Fallout 4? It seems a lot more stable, a lot less stutter and pretty much locked 30 fps. I love Fallout 4 but it constantly stutters and drops into the mid 20's which i don't notice in Skyrim at all.

Noticed it big time playing them back to back.

I'm having a hard time being a 1 handed weapon shield guy or if I should lvl up my magic perks. I put 1 point into destruction and restoration, and 4 points in one handed. got 3 points left and have no idea where to spend it.

The werewolf quest also started. Not sure if I wanna do it or not. I don't wanna be a bad guy. I accepted to be a werewolf and next thing you know I'm in town and guards are attacking me.

Perks to increase weapon damage and to increase your armor rating are your best bet. For shield make sure you get the fast reflex perk.

problem is I dont know which type 1 handed weapon perk to skill up. sword, axe, mace...

what if i lvl up sword then get a cool mace

In the long run, it doesn't really matter. The best weapons are the ones you will smith and enchant yourself once your skill is high enough. If you prefer one to the other, then go to that.
For the short run, I think swords have a higher dps due to their attack speed. The perks look better for swords, followed by the mace then war axe. Critical chances are always useful whereas the armor ignore is only useful against armored opponents and the bleed effect isn't that useful as a melee fighter. Others can correct me if I'm wrong.

help me out guys, I cant find this dam Dragon SCroll elder scroll, They say to go to College of Winterhold to talk to that Orc and he wont give me any info!
