Skyrim Special Edition

Skyrim XP doesn't work that way at all. You are rewarded for using skills, enemy death don't give points of experience: you get the XP by using spells or attacks to kill it! Even if your follower kills the enemy, you still get the XP for shooting him from afar or throwing fireballs. Or better yet, you can do both!
Another fun tip: If you equip your follower with an absorb health/magic/stamina enchanted weapon, you will absorb the points they inflict on enemies.

Why do you guys put so much value on NPC lives? Skyrim is huge and there are dozens of replacements for every profession imaginable. Follower or merchant, there's another one much alike in the next hold! I guess I'm the one who spent so much time playing that I have no more emotional ties. One of my biggest joy is to let a follower die so I can "Dead Thrall" him and make him a much quieter, less annoying follower. I like Lydia's tone when she mumbles "Aaaaarrrrrrghhhhh".

I think I would let things play out more and be okay with some deaths if Skyrim had more NPCs. As the game stands, there are just not that many NPCs in the game.

its a bit sad and annoying from a game perspective if the NPC you go to all the time dies. I agree with m52.. There aren't THAT many NPCs in this world. It doesn't look busy like Witcher3. Granted many of the NPCs in that game are just fillers but still it felt like a real town.

The cities and towns in Skyrim are so small you would think they all come from the same family tree...

Especially since there are like 4 voice actors for all NPCs!

Didn't know that. You mean YOU absorb what damage the follower deals? That doesn't make sense but who will complain? Another fun and practical thing to do is to equip your follower with a soul trap weapon and empty soul gems. It's a fast way to help you collect souls for your first crafting spree.

For some reason, it doesn't seem to work with a soul trap bow...

Riften is a much better place if you don't mind the company of thieves. Even if you don't go to their sewer outpost, you still have a blacksmith and 3 different merchants right there in the city square. The Riften house is not too expensive to buy and there is much to do around town.

It is a good idea to move your headquarters there if you plan to complete the thief guild quests. It provides you with a owned bed in proximity to multiple merchants, a smithing station and various crafting tables (in the guild or Riften's palace).

I always move there if I play a thief. In fact, I don't move there: I buy my first house there and don't spend money on other houses. Good advice: instead of spending money on houses and furniture, pay for some training sessions for the skills you don't use often!

Just started playing tonight, time for Skyrim to consume me yet again.

I get attached to my followers. They're just pack mule's for me mostly, but there is just something about the way Lydia says "What would you like me to carry?", that just hits me in the right spot. I mourned her death, when I accidentally shot her in the throat while she was cowering in fear from a powerful mage.

I like it when she says "I am sworn to carry your burdens", and you can practically hear her eyes roll.

I was the same. I lost Lydia, but she definitely wasn't dead and must have glitched out somewhere. Anyway after checking Dragonsreach a bunch, I just brought up the console and teleported her to my location. Bam, her dead body hits the floor beside me, and all the loot I had her carrying was gone. Lone wolf from now on bro. There's no coming back from that shit

I'm I the only one that marries Lydia?

I'm I the only one that marries Lydia?

You know, I've played this game for over 300 hours, and still never figured out how to get married. I'm just the weird guy in town, who lives with orphans.

So I am running "Touching the Sky" mission running Darkfall cave. I get through the caves and reach the Forgotten Vale (autosaved here). I am like "woooow" this area is HUUUUGE..

so I start exploring and I am running around and checking things out, diving into the water and checking past waterfalls. I found two of the points i need to get and cave to check out, I run up this hill and I find 2 big enemies and kill them both... dive underneath the water and explore the under the ice sheet for a bit then scrabble back cause its massive and dark down there.... I go back down hill and run past something... go back up the hill... and follow up a cliff along the river...

then I see a giant at the bottom a little under my side of the cliff so I decide to snipe him. I slowly sneak out to the edge of the cliff to get a good shot. I hit and kill him in one shot.... .... .... .... and fall off the cliff and die... FUCK! I wasted 50 mins of exploring... i was so pissed. Turned off my game and didn't play for the rest of the day...

Go to the temple of mara in riften, or maybe the bee & barb. There is a dude named mamalar or something that is a priest of mara. go through all the dialogues and he will let you purchase an amulet of mara. find chick you want to marry (its always Mjoll the Lioness for me), equip the amulet and start hitting on her. say you want to get married, meet at the shrine and have your beautiful little ceremony.

good luck sir

Happy Monday, fellow Skyrimmers! How are you Alduin!?
That's report worthy. Never speak Alduin's name in vain!

Rookie! I do 300 hours a week! Seriously, marriage is easy as 1 - 2 - 3:

1- Go to Riften and visit the temple of Mara. Ask Maramal about marriage, he will oblige. He will offer to sell you an amulet of Mara, buy it if you don't already have one.

2- Choose your significant other. The easiest pick is Lydia because you don't have to do any other quest than killing the dragon. Equip the amulet of Mara and talk to her: she will ask if you're available. Say yes and proceed back to Riften. (There's another option if you don't want to marry Lydia:
At Riverhood, you can complete a fast quest involving Feandal, Sven and Camilla. Help one of them and just go retrieve the Golden Claw: Camilla will be available for marriage after that.)

3- Back to Riften, you will get the message to attend your wedding. Just go to the temple of Mara from 8am to 8pm and the ceremony will proceed. Your bride will either move to one of your owned house or offer you a place to stay. Now is the time to buy a children room for your manor and consider adoption!
