Shoyoroll

wat? $169-179 is a premium? take a look at vulkan, koral, atama, lucky etc and report back...

Those are all overpriced when there are perfectly viable alternatives in the $90-$120 range. Unless the gi is truly offering something different (Datsusara comes to mind), there's no reason to pay any more than that for a gi. Quality is in the eye of the beholder, but there is no observable superiority in any of those more expensive gi's.

If you have the money and you want to pay more for a particular gi, that's your business. But no one should believe the hype that there's anything special about them.

Since Koral and Atama raised their prices, I no longer support those brands unless there is a sale going on, and I would never buy a Lucky; however, one thing those companies have over SYR is customer service and the ability to replace defective products. With all the new brands that are coming out, I won't pay more than $150ish for a Gi, not including shipping.

see everybody has their own "limits" for spending. you prefer to stay on the lower side, nothing wrong with that at all, while others dont mind paying a little more for something very different (yeah its still a gi at the end of the day, but the colors, style etc are unique). not to mention the fit may be worth to someone else. I have owned keiko raca, vulkan, gameness, koral, and SYR. SYR hands down has the best fit for my body type, and thats worth the extra money right there.

and theres no "hype" about them being special or anything like that. there is hype because they are hard to come by and appeal to collectors. not that hard to understand.

Truthfully, the days of them being "unique" looking ended about a year and a half ago. I'm also ignoring the fact that Lucky came out first and did most of the same stuff on a larger scale then typically seen before. There are now a LOT of smaller gi comapanies that do the same thing and at comparable quality with either better service, cheaper prices or maybe even both.

But if you have the money I'm sure you'll enjoy it because there are only so many produced and the people who like them also like that added feature of the product.
As they say "When you see somebody with a SYR you know their ass is about some jiu jitsu"...

how do you remember all these random quotes people make on here? And I am sure a lot of the Shoyorollians are newbs, buying strictly on hype... That is actually how I got my SYRs, that and they were not pre-order.

I recall a thread several months ago stating that the price of cotton will go up gradually in the near future due to cotton crop droughts. Not sure if this is a scheme to create a false sense of shortages to manipulate the market or something but its affecting several textile businesses, not just for gis.

The drought in Pakistan is old news - 2 years ago. Crops have been fully recovered.

Cotton prices on the exchange have came down by far within the last 4-6 months.

Price of cotton started going up from Feb 2010 and Peaked at Feb 2011 (all time high). Then went down at went to its lowest point Dec 2011 (thats when I just placed my large order). Now the price has creeped back up.

I know clothing prices haven't gone up, so I think it is just a ploy. Nor did it justify raising the price on old stock.

The price comes from the limited number produced. This has caused a feeding frenzy... I paid base price for them, I would not pay $250 plus for these gis. Truth be told the colors are nice I guess, but not worth the 6 month wait or the ebay inflation. The stitching is mediocre at best. These gis do have long arms so some people really like the cut of the gi for this reason.

This. I also recall an article in The Economist about Pakistan improving it's production output via working with Indian growers and manufacturers-that was the angle of the article anyway since it was showing some cooperation between the two combative countries...

But yeah the flood was some time ago. With China, Pakistan and Vietnam now ramping up production I don't see such excuses holding much weight but it's understandable. No company is gonna come out and say they're increasing prices because they simply want more of your money, they have to sell it to you. Also I believe the guy that stated that was the guy from Atama...

That's the struggle though between consumer and producer. We wish to pay as little as possible, they wish to make as much profit as possible and we meet somewhere in between.

I think what frustrates people is that SYR doesn't hold stock to replace defective or worn items. I understand "limited edition" but this is supposed to be a functional item for a combat sport. As to the fit, I can personally verify Ground Control has the same cut in the body and sleeve length, sleeve width is slightly longer and i've heard Ouano uses the same cut as well.

At the end of the day, everyone is going to choose the brand they want. I do love my SYR, but I don't wear it often and probably won't buy another.

I have only had 1 issue out of my 5 SYR's, and Bear took care of it in a level of customer service I have only experienced with Nordstroms. I know everyone bitches about their CS, but I had an awesome experience. Otherwise all of the gis are in constant rotation, and have phased out my vulkans almost completely.

The thing with the Internet (and life in general), is that we only hear about the bad stuff. I'm sure there are tons of SYR owners out there who are extremely happy with their gis, and would happily buy another. Unfortunately, very few of them post on internet forums...

absolutely true. people are vocal when they are mad, quiet when happy. I am essentially in a customer service related industry, as is my GF, so we know whats its like to get/give good customer service and how much it matters. As a result, we try to write letters to places that show exemplary customer service.

I'm curious as to why someone who likes SYR would not be on this forum or would be considered less vocal? I sincerely hope you did not mean to imply that SYR fans put more time on the mat as it were because that would be an impractical assumption...

SYR has plenty of fans, lots of people who are ambivalent, people who have had a bad experience and then haters. Same with Atama, Gameness, Origin, Priya, Moya, Tatami, HCK, P and S, Lucky when it was the big new thing, not to mention the big guys like CSI, Ringside, Title, Fairtex, etc.

Most stuff on the gear section is pretty positive or perhaps cautiously optimistic.

hello guys,

Sometimes lag on jumping on the forums. There are many good brands on the market. We on hope to provide some really cool things to all the great customers who purchase and support our products. We are looking at the biggest year in the brands history and our mission in 2012 is to improve on quality, customers service, and shrink lead times. Ohh and to pump out a crap load of cool stuff.

Feedback both good and bad. Thank you for helping us continue to grow and get better.

Any issues about the brand or questions feel free to email us at [email protected]

Hope you all have a awesome week training.

Osss.

-Bear from SYR

its a fact known in the customer service world.

Well tonight I rolled with a guy that had a white shoyoroll with gold or yellow stitching. That gi sure felt suave, smooth to the core. I was digging it. Anyone know what model that is? White I think, or off-white, yellow/gold stitching? Perhaps tan in there somewhere.
