Should they remove the weight limit at HW?

Over muscled strong men don't make for interesting fighters. Yeah, some of their weaknesses can be compensated for by intense PED usage - why not get rid of drug testing all together and make it transparent?

But in any case: the real interesting open weight fighters would be if guys like this got into mma from a young age:

The guy on the left is what 293 pounds looks like at 7'4'' with an athletic frame. Would be much more interesting to see athletic guys like that fight - who would actually have functional cardio to go with huge natural power - than a bunch of over muscled meat heads.
That guy could to 265lbs if he wanted to. It's 28lbs we've had guys at LW make that kind of cut.

He'd also get ragdolled by someone like Aspinall.

YES. We already got a boxing match of The Mountain vs Eddie Hall, and Eddie Hall is fighting Pudz later today I think.

I want to see these 400+ pound strongmen be allowed to compete in MMA. These guys make Brock Lesnar look small.
Eddie weighed 330lbs and Pudz was in the high 260lbs.

Apart from the epic amount of steroids to be muscular over 300lbs these guys don't have any cardio at that weight.

Pudz came in something like 320lbs against Big Tim and basically turned purple and collapsed because his body couldn't support that much muscle in a fight which is why he ended up dropping 50lbs of muscle.

Look how retarded people have become.

They simp so hard for dwarf fights that they have even convinced themselves that we should have an artificial limit on the only division that actually matters.

Let's not allow a guy the size of Nikola Jokic fight at his natural weight because hEs a fAtSo.
Jokic is 285lbs, we've had guys like Lesnar and Sylvia cutting and walking into the cage that kind of size.

Boxing allowed Zhilei Zhang who was 280 lbs fight Deontay Wilder who was around 220 when they fought. I say removing the weight limit is a brilliant idea
Sylvia and Lesnar were over 280lbs in the cage against 220lbs Couture.

No shit.

See the part about 'natural weight' before clicking the reply button.

Forcing people to cut weight at HW is idiotic.

Inspired by this thread.

I mean you want to see the baddest of the baddest at HW, lets have no limit at all.

I want to see the best most athletic monsters out there fight the best at HW.

Making it the ultimate weight class. And the best fighter clearly is the baddest man on the planet.

What's your take on that?

No...265 is perfectly fine..

In the entire history of the UFC HW division there has only been 2 champions who were near or over the 265lbs..

Roid freak Lesnar ..

And

Sandmines Ngannou...

When Tim Sylvia won the belt he 250 and later fought heavier.

Most champions are 230-255lbs... because you are actually in shape at those weights and its sustainable to fight there for 25 mins ..

SHW or open limit MMA has been tried many times...going back to Bodog fight times...

Its always the same 2 mins of fighting and 13 or 23 mins of them trying to breath ..

People that big arent meant to move alot ..its the law of diminishing returns

Fair enough argument, thanks.

sherdoggers wanna see more biggest, baddest, fattest HW, like 301lbs Tai Taivasa lol, shit just hited the fan. Why not make division 220-225lbs and rename HW for SHW 220/5-265.

It would be a difficult cut that would no doubt affect his chin - at heavyweight no less. Why should a man that size have to make such a weight cut and fight with a compromised chin? Cardio and explosiveness is also negatively effected by such a weight cut.

Don't get me wrong: the vast majority of men on this planet, if in genuine trim athletic shape - that is, old school 1920's and 30's boxer shape from training down (so only the minimum athletic muscle and fat they need to function athletically) could fight at 205...let alone 265. But it is still ridiculous to make the genuine outlier sized men cut weight just to be able to fight at heavyweight...and it is dangerous for them because the weight cut makes them much more susceptible to being knocked out by other heavyweight fighters than they otherwise would be.

The problem with the poll is SHW would not = the biggest and baddest fighting each other.

It'd be the biggest and fattest, no different than just about anything below the top 5 in current HW.

There's almost no one who can't make 265lbs in shape who'd be interested in fighting.

I think it's more beneficial to stop guys like Hunt, Tuivasa, Black Beast, Big Country etc from turning up as 300lbs+ slobs and forces them to get in some kind of shape.

I'd rather have that than have those kind of guys out of shape and one or two freak big guys in the division who aren't even top fighters.

Look at boxing, they have no upper limit and the No1 guy weighs about 220lbs. Look at the top 10 most guys are 220lbs-260lbs except Zhang who's 280lbs but is carrying some flab.
