Evil little shitbags. I spent a career dealing with these types of kids and then, last year, I worked as a human trafficking advocate for a non profit until the grant funding it ran out. On tuesdays, I spent time with juveniles in a detention facility there. Some were for very serious charges.
There is something very odd about juvenile offenders that commit serious crimes. The first aspect that I have observed is their maturity level. At some points, they come off as more mature than their years and at other times, they come off as less mature than their age and more like children.
These kids need tried as adults and I will explain why.
The pre-frontal cortex does not fully form until the age range of 21-25 in an average person. The pre frontal cortex is the part of the brain that is used in higher thought process and decision making.
While this pre frontal cortex is developing, juveniles tend to use their amygdala to make decisions. The amygdala is a small area on the brain stem that is responsible for emotion. In juveniles, especially those that have experienced childhood trauma, they make rash decisions and tend to seek out risky behaviors that trigger their dopamine levels to spike.
What does this mean??? It means that kids will be thrill seekers and make bad decisions to flood their system with dopamine (the chemical that makes you feel happy and excited). Without the pre fromtal
Cortex firing on all cylinders, these kids are
Unable to think about the consequences for their actions while their brains are still developing. All they know is that they like the feel of dopamine in their system and will do whatever they can to increase that good feeling. It’s almost like being a drug addict. This is especially true for kids that have had trauma in their lives. They are extreme risk takers, do not think about consequences, and their brains are almost permanently in “fight or flight” mode.
So, I have laid out some info on how the juvenile brain works and how juvenile brains with trauma act. I am clearly saying they these kids are not operating at full brain capacity and they share some diminished responsibility because of this fact. They all have experienced some type of trauma (I will detail this afterward). It’s almost like a built in insanity defense when it comes to trying juveniles for serious crimes. Due to the seriousness of this crime and clearly, a great many more they committted for clout and could likely be tied to because they are proud of their actions and think it makes them the coolest and baddest fuckers around; so they have been documenting their actions to share with friends. Based upon the seriousness of the crime and the sheer number of crimes they committed, I think you need to try them as adults so that they get more than a few years. Charged as a juvenile will keep someone locked up until the age of 21 in most states.
For what they did, these kids need more time than that. Due to their young age, I would suggest be in juvenile detention until 21 years old and then five years in big boy prison. However, because they are so young, rehabilitation has to be of the utmost importance to these kids, otherwise, they will just be super predators when they get out of prison.
Proof that these kids experience trauma:
Messiah is living with his uncle probably because mom and dad are in prison or dead-or deemed unfit to care for him. These kids are growing up in poverty, live in or around violent neighborhoods, parents or family members involved in crime either as perpetrators or victims
