Unfortunately at my ripe age of about to hit 30, my mind isn't what it once was. Maybe it would be easy to refresh if stupid ass Sherdog didn't fuck with the Pics & Multimedia subforum 37x, make a failed spinoff version for MMA pics/media only, and somehow manage to piss away all the great history of old Shoop threads.

At the moment, the only names who aren't still around that very vividly come to mind are my best Sherdog friend (that I legit miss really fucking bad), Det Kimble. Then we have the legendary BWR of course. Last but certainly not least, the best Shooper ever IMHO...GSPonaBicycle. I'm sure more will come to mind soon.

Actually as I type this, another has. Arguably the most important. Chuck and the Vig (or however it was worded).

Was there a shoop scene before Kimble or was anyone doing this stuff before Det started doing it? How did Det get started?

I'm just trying to fill in some unknowns here & thought you might of known since you hung out with him.

It's hard to say cause I didn't become a mainstay around here until around 2010. Before that, it was the occasional account that would get banned within a month. I was a piece of shit teenager eh.

I think as an official Sherdog tradition, Rashadface.com was when Shoops really became a thing. I remember there being one other Shoop Dat thread around prior to Shadface but I my mind is fuzzy. I think it may have been Rampage vs Wand 3.

Plus threads were always getting hijacked and being made into Shoop threads, like the guy that met Cheick Kongo and had the black guy haircut from back in the day. Can't remember if that was before or after Shadface though. Same with UberTS. Then you had "needs more birds" on that fan made Brock vs Reem poster. That one obviously came along after Shadface but I mention it because UFC Discussion threads getting hijacked into Shoop threads is really what started Shoops.

But yes, onto Shoops becoming a thing...probably Det. He lived in Pics&Multimedia and was always excited to meet fellow men of culture. He was also always one of the first to jump in UFC Disc with a nice Shoop after someone got KO'd helpless and unconscious in front of their family and the rest of the world.

As far as the origins of the word, "Shoop"...that sounds very Det indeed, and I could easily see him coming up with such complex terminology.

It's just hard to give credit when I don't quite know for sure, out of respect for Det and the rest of the Blue Kimble society. Det wasn't the type of Sherdogger to take credit for anything. That just wasn't how he conducted himself.

This is what I remember. Shoops started out as mean things to fuck with people who put too much info on the interwebz and trusted the Sherdoggers with personal information in order to try to impress us, or whatever. American culture has changed a little, believe it or not. The old culture incorporated more masculine stuff like fucking with people for their imperfections, whereas now our culture celebrates them.

That is why I always include some mean shoops, lol. It is because that is the origin of shooping on Sherdog, in my recollection. Then, after Shad, it was a tradition. I started lurking around 2005/6 and had accounts in 07 and beyond. A thread from 2004 with Bas arguing with Jason Delucia is what got me hooked on the 'Dawg for real.

I know I mentioned some of this before. I forgot to add that Sherdog added a media feature in maybe 08 where anyone who logged in would see random pics from media that people uploaded. I had a shoop I did of Seth Petruzelli around the Halloween of his Kimbo fight. It didn't get banned in the thread I dropped it in (where some guy posted a picture of Seth and we laughed about it, then I shooped a weird pic), but it got banned when the feature turned on, and my offensive shoop was flashing by everyone's faces when they logged in, lol.

Shooping definitely started as a mean thing with a lot of Schadenfreude going on. Anyway, that is one of the things that cracked me up about this place, so I joined in.
