Elections Sherrod Brown not running for President

I also think it means Biden is in (maybe even Beto). I’m not a big fan of that either. Brown could’ve been informed and that’s why he’s not in. Or he may have a deal with someone like Harris to stay out for the VP offer. He’s basically a better Tim Kaine. He probably would’ve won in Pennsylvania , Wisconsin , Michigan , maybe Ohio (ironically enough). Or at least one or two of them, he’s a Midwesterners wet dream.

It’s at least one of those two scenarios.
Could be, but it could also be something else we don't know. Maybe him and his people didn't feel they were strong enough on recognition and/or couldn't line up donors.

In 2008 Obama was young and charismatic, and he also wasn't running against an established household name.

None of those are the case with Sherrod Brown.
Yeah, nobody had ever heard of John McCain

I put him in the category of:

"Will lose to President Trump on name recognition alone."

The vast majority of the American public will read the name Sherrod Brown, and collectively ask "Who?".

I thought he used to play for the Pistons.

Of course anything is possible. The word was he’s in, and that was coming from a lot of people close to him. Big city that’s like a small town effect. Total shocker to everyone I’ve talked to.

Obviously this is kind of anecdotal but he was definitely behaving like he was running.

Thank god. Everytime I heard his inherent dignity in work speal I got triggered af. Some Progressives actually preferred him, probably the fourth most popular candidate on the left after Bernie, Tulsi and EW. On policy I get why to some extent but that messaging is the opposite of what American needs right now. We need to cleanse that Protestant work ethic BS from our national psyche and fight for our values not cloak Progressive policies in that sadistic mindset.

"Trump" has been a household name since the early 80's.

Brown is a relative nobody who would have to introduce himself to the vast majority of American voters.

Don't kid yourself into thinking Sherrod Brown had any chance of beating President Trump. Hence why he dropped out.

I agree with @kpt018 that the long campaign would have given Brown plenty of exposure for the general.

I think the name recognition problem could have hurt him badly in the primary though. Polling right now is a pretty good indication of name recognition. Sanders and Biden (great name recognition) are polling around 30%. Brown is polling at around 0% or 1%.

I’m from Cleveland and the mood around here was he was definitely running. Rumor was he was announcing it today, so you can imagine all of our surprise when we heard he’s not in.

He almost certainly cut a deal with someone to stay out, with who I’m not sure. He’ll be a VP pick.
What's up Clevelander. I'm on the East Side and Sherrod dropping out raised some eyebrows.

I see you.

I just moved downtown and I’ve got a question for you. Do all the Indian guys smell like Abercrombie Fierce? I think it’s a racist question so I can’t ask anyone I work with.

Anyway, you get it. I would’ve told you a week or two ago 100% he’s running. I would’ve told you that two days ago. I thought he was announcing it today. Something is up. Something happened.

I didnt think he would be able to do enough to stand out. Sanders while old as hell seems to have a major head start on support. I really only think that Betto or Gabber have a chance at catching up to Sanders. The rest of the field have too much negative press like Warren or will just fade into the crowd like what happens to most candidates.

Not sure what Abercrombie Fierce is. Does it involve Axe Bodywash? I do a lot of business with the Federation of Indian Community Associations (FICA) in Cleveland and they do have a tendency to smell deliciously of curry, but that just might be my white olfactory privilege noticing.

But yeah, all kinds of rumor mongering going on. Let me know if you hear anything juicy. If there's no sex tape involved I will be mildly disappointed.

Are you honestly pretending like John McCain was anywhere near the same league as President Donald J. Trump in terms of name recognition?
He was miles out of Trump's league in political recognition. By your logic a reality tv show host could run and win every election. Or maybe an athlete. I wonder if Kaepernick is available?

It’s a cologne for high school kids. Potent stuff. Shit, I wish it smelled like Curry. Get in an elevator after one of these guys and you’re smelling that shit on yourself all day.

I don’t mean to generalize but I’m not kidding. They all smell like Abercrombie Fierce. Is that racist? I don’t care.

I wouldn't vote for Kap, but c'mon, an election between him and Trump would be a lot of fun.

So who do you think is going to win?

Hard to tell we are still a nine or 10 months from finding out if anyone can catch Sanders for the DNC nomination, but I'm leaning Beto

Since I don't really like Booker, Harris or Gillibrand, I'm just left with Warren, Sanders and Klobuchar as favorites. Maybe it's time to take a closer look at Hickenlooper.
I think Tulsi Gabbard takes this.

I think Tulsi Gabbard takes this.
I hear a lot of people say that, but most of them are people with strong authoritarian tendencies, CTers, Trump fans, etc. I think she would do better in a Republican primary, with minimal rebranding.
