I got all my wires cleaned up. The wires are a little short for the front fans, but it's acceptable. I'm thinking of upgrading to Noctua's. I'm running Arctic Cooling PWM ones now but they're a little loud.

"AdAway" is the ultimate adblocker if you have root. It's the "NoScript" of the smartphone world. All of my stuff requires root access and/or Xposed framework, except for the basic "Adblock" that comes with the browsers (pretty sure this is the same one as for the desktop browsers).

i need to rooted, but i probably should have it done. Any others?

I'll look into it, thank you.

I'm a HUGE NoScript fan, and have been using it for years. Knowing that there's a phone version is great news.

Apps
  • Adblock (Chrome extension)
  • AdAway + several adblocking lists (ex. MOAAB list)
Xposed Modules
  • MinMinGuard
  • YouTube AdAway
  • Xad
  • XPrivacy
  • Lucky Patcher*
*I use the Xposed module, since it's superior, but there is also a standalone app if you don't have Xposed

Only the green one doesn't require root.
This one works pretty damn well. It is a massive hosts file that is updated often.

So everyone understands: this isn't an adblocker itself, but a massive blacklist of advertising sources to be blocked. These are the sorts of lists that AdAway uses.

Holy crap, so I saw trending on FB this story:

Samsung coming out with a 16TB SSD!!! Damn, son!!!

Damn son.
I seen they're going to start selling the 750 series ssd in the states. No 3d nand but uses the controller from the 850. Its supposed to be budget oriented also and only comes with a 3 year warranty. Only 128gb and 240gb, or whatever is the normal Samsung sizes, sizes will be available.

Nice rig. I have a Phanteks Enthoo Pro. What case do you have? From the responses I got, youre better off waiting on video cards until the next gen which has a fall target date.

When I buy my next case it's definitely going to be a full size case.

so I am out of touch with monitors . I have a old Samsung LCD and looking to upgrade . Any suggestions for a 26"-28" monitor ?

Just scored a 4960x and Asrock LGA2011 Extreme for $400 Canadian (And considering that the chip alone was $1000 2 years ago, I think it is a pretty hot deal).

Time to retire my Hexacore Xeon (which has been humming along at 4.6Ghz). Now I have to decide whether to use the new chip or my 4770k as my gaming rig (with the other being relgated to server/data analysis duty).

P.S: Has anyone seen the Thermaltake Core X9 Cube Case? This thing is sexy as hell, and can support 4 x 480mm Radiators.

Hi folks, I'd like to do a setup dedicated to emulation. It would have to perfectly run PSX, Gamecube and PS2 isos using Dolphin and epsx2. I'd also like to connect it to my TV and use 4 xbox360 controllers, should I buy a motherboard with many usb controllers or something else? What would you recommend in terms of Ram, CPU and GPU??

Regarding your first question, it would be less messy to purchase the USB to Wireless Dongle for Xbox 360 controllers, and just use 4 wireless controllers (one dongle supports up to 4 devices).

As for the CPU/RAM/GPU, What's your budget?

My tentative recommendation is to get a Haswell or Skylake generation CPU, as they are significantly faster at Dolphin Emulation than previous generations (or AMD). Which CPU you end up choosing will largely be contingent on what you are willing to spend: I think the 6600k is probably the best bang for your buck, but putting together a new Skylake platform would still run you $500+.

Thanks BramptonBoy, any budget is OK. The only limit is to not going over what's necessary to get everything smooth and fluid with any game of that generation.

My personal recommendation:

6600k

AS Rock Z170Pro4

16Gig Cosair Vengeance Kit

Powercolor PCS+ Radeon r9 380

Deepcool Gamer Storm Lucifer Cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835856002

The whole system is ~$610 and change. I included a non stock cooler, because the 6600k is an overclocking beast, and you should be able to hit 4.5Ghz easily.

I am assuming you can salvage/repurpose a case/powersupply and ssd from stuff you have laying around.

What's nice about going Skylake is that if you really wanted to, you could make this your primary gaming rig. Just throw in a more powerful videocard, and you will be able to play any game out there.
