Thanks.

My first OC attempt. I'm kind of disappointed I couldn't go higher.

So you went from 3.2 to 4.2Ghz and that isn't enough? That is a pretty good OC.

4.4 seems to be the norm around the internet. From what I've read since I got a B85 board I can't go over 1.2v which is holding me back.

I was toying with the idea of going with a 5820k or 5930k vs 6700k after seeing them listed on the higher builds on the logical increments site Cyg posted. So I did some research, please someone let me know if my analysis is flawed.

x99 vs z170: For most people using x99, upgrading to z170 isn't necessarily worth it base on performance upgrades. However because I am building new, and not using a prior usable platform I should go with z170. Any gains I would have by going with a 6 core processor like 5930k is negligible. 6700k is the best processor for z170 right now because it is new.

Also, just for reference / humor this is what my current PC is:

HP Pavilion bought in 2007
Q6600 processor (4 cores 2.4 ghz)
Geforce GTX 260 - Added
8 GB Ram - Added

Sorry. I have not done enough research to give you a definite answer. I actually went with Z97 because I got absurd discounts on the CPU and MOBO.

im looking to buy a desktop or laptop with medium specs.

What should look for, can I go with a budget I3 4gig ram, no idea on video card etc?

I just want to really actually play backlogged games from Circa 4yrs ago, and maybe stuff like Witcher 2 since I did get the codes when I bought a ps4 version.

Im a total noob, I also dont really want to spend alot, is it a foolish cause hehehe thanks Sherbros.

Looking to get a new computer soon

Main specs i would like is a i7-6700, 16 gig ddr4 ram 2133 and a gtx 980

But ill settle for an i7-4790, 16 gig ddr4 and a gtx 970

All depends on the black Friday and christmas sales

Need at least 500w power supply would like 750+ but as long as i have enough itll do

Also would like 2 hdmi and 4 usb 3.0 but can settle for less

What is your budget? You can build a solid system on the cheap that will be very capable of playing games a few years old. On a real tight budget I would probably go with an AMD CPU over the i3 (more cores for less money, and easily overclocked).

Was there a question in your post?

I was thinking around the budget of $600-$700

Im more of a old RTS guy and I bought on steam all the old Command and conquer games but my current laptop which is a lame Celeron cant even play C&C 3 because its to laggy even at low settings :icon_sad:

Looking for a new PC. My old one crapped out. I have my eye on three ones on newegg. Any of them a good deal? I dont really want to build one myself, haven't done that in about 10 years.

I dont need it to be cutting edge or crazy, just something that can run some older games . Still gone to be a filthy console gamer mainly. :D

so im planning on pushing to 4k. right now i have a 290x stock card.

would a 2nd 8GB card be enough to do stable 60fps?

Or should i try an get a 295 x2?

What settings do you expect to play at? Dual 290x or the 295 x2 will not get you to 60FPS on most games @ 4k.

Have you considered 1440p or 1440 ultra wide? The power just isn't there yet to really enjoy 4K especially if you want to play any games coming out this next year (Fallout, Doom, Star Wars.. )

Someone holla if you see any good deals on a gtx 970 video card

just installed my GTX 970 SC card into my Alienware x51 and got fallout nv for pc. It runs amazing, like holy hell its such an improvement over my basic model i had.

Here is the last gaming rig I built, about 3-4 months ago. LOVE the GTX 970, love the 4790k, love the mobo bios/options, LOVE the 500+GB SSD. Thinking about picking up another 16GB of ram for Fallout 4 though...

Thumb Drive and Arkham Knight were my freebies in this BTW.

why is everyone using Fo4 as they're base game. it really doesnt look all that visually amazing. Yall should seriously setting your sites so much higher..

I think people are just excited for FO4 and want to max sure they can run it on max with no lag. Doesn't hurt to go overkill.
