Leonardo thought it seemed like a good time for a break. This is at least the third break since passing the biggest upward transfer of wealth in the history of mankind. Most Americans are lucky to get one vacation.

Doesn't seem as if Congress cares about:
  • 3.5 million households are not at all confident in their ability to eat the week before Thanksgiving
  • 6 million Americans missed rent or mortgage payments in September
  • 30 million people in this country are at risk of eviction
  • 742,000 Americans filed for unemployment (the worst week of the great recession was 665,000)
  • North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) distributed more than 600,000 lbs of food in less than a week
  • 189,000 new Covid cases and 2,065 deaths across the U.S. yesterday
  • 12 million will lose unemployment benefits after Christmas
  • 8 million have slipped into poverty since May
Congress goes on vacation next week, after months spent hardly working on an economic stimulus that almost everyone agrees was needed months ago.
  • This failure was disheartening in May. It was frustrating in August. It was maddening earlier this month.
  • Today it's whatever adjective best describes the compulsion to slam your head against a concrete wall.
The difference between now and then is that we can see a light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, thanks to vaccine trial results from Pfizer and Moderna.
  • That means we know more about what's needed and for how long it's needed, neither of which were really true when the CARES Act was passed in March.
  • We also know now that America is in the midst of a third COVID-19 wave that is only expected to get worse, particularly after a Thanksgiving holiday that may double as a national super-spreader event.
  • Many businesses — including a lot of Northern state restaurants that have been eking by on outdoor dining — are unlikely to survive until a Biden inauguration (or even until the Georgia run-offs). More jobs will be lost.
  • In addition, upwards of 12 million Americans could lose their unemployment benefits the day after Christmas, as CARES Act provisions expire.
This list of horribles is manifest. Yet there are zero negotiations happening right now on stimulus, according to Axios political reporter Alayna Treene.

The bottom line: Elected officials of both parties, including President Trump, are failing the country. Not only by not succeeding in getting new stimulus passed, but by no longer even trying.

  • The time for apportioning partisan blame has passed. The elections are over, so it's no longer defensible for leaders to wait until their "side" has more leverage. Every business or job saved, every family enabled to avoid eviction, should now be the priority. Every vacation day is a cruelty, brought to us by what is becoming the lamest of ducks.

It wouldn't be a be a-thing-where-nothing-is-getting-done without Ocasio-Cortez hotdogging and grandstanding. Someone mention to her that the Dems control the House and could pass a bill anytime that they want.

AOC actually didn't know the dems still control the house. Not even kidding, she's actually a house member and thought losing 12 seats meant republicans had a 12 seat majority.

As for them passing any covid relief, they won't give people a penny unless they can attach a bunch of irrelevant crap and massive handouts for their donors.

Well she's fitting to the mold well. All talking and blaming the other side and offering no actual solution to the problem at hand. She'll fit in well with all the other soulless deadites.

Don't liberal states like CA give up 30% of their federal taxes to freeloading conservative welfare states? IMO just allow them to keep their own tax revenue, that's all that needs to be done here.
Impressively retarded. Do you mean cut federal taxes, or did you not know there is a difference between state and federal taxes? If you wanted federal taxes cut, that's a republican position and you should have voted accordingly.

SALT deductions go the other way. Furthermore, it's democrat cities in otherwise red states where individuals take the federal welfare benefits, so take that away from them and see how long the democrats keep any house seats or senate votes in those districts. Hell, you might actually get the federal tax cuts you're asking for if they tried it.

It'll pass once the criminals Loeffler and Perdue get thrown out. Pelosi becomes leader.

Bill under Pelosi should give stimulus only to those who get a vaccine, thus encouraging universal vaccination mandatory, without making it mandatory.
Biden will pass the bill.

Its a win/win on both sides, and neither Republicans nor Democrats can complain

You seriously believe that? Every conservative small town in the US flyover country is like half on welfare.

Lol! Saw a funny meme about this

Working class: help us!!!

Republicans : no

Democrats: no. #blm, ️‍
Similar to 2008, the plutocrats have been protected and well-served by the system, and the working class is left to fend for itself.

This will happen again; albeit under the guise of a different real-world crisis.

Good call.

Do, do you not know how this works? A bill had to be voted on by both the house and the senate to become reality

One side can’t just pass bills on their own
I think you don't understand how it works.

The house can pass a bill and then send it to the senate. This will force the senate to vote on it. If and when the senate votes against it, the dems can then use those votes against those senators. It's called politics.

They should have done that before the election.

You mean like they did in October?

And McConnel wouldn’t even bring it up for a vote in the senate. They’re not forced to vote on anything the senate majority leader doesn’t bring up for a vote.

And the dems didn't use it. Thank you for proving my point. They don't care.

You always quote me to make excuses for these useless clowns. Bootlicking must be exhausting for you.

What the ever loving fuck?

You argue the dems never passed a relief bill in the house. I link you an article showing they did last month.

You think that proves your point how?

Pelosi also reelected as speaker with no opponents. This will Shirley change nothing.

All that showboating, grandstanding and hotdogging by AOC is pointless.

Force people to be lab experiments for money to survive? What a compassionate position you decided to take. You must really love big pharma. I’d wait for 2nd generation vaccines at the very least. Here’s an idea, why don’t republicans and democrats alike get off their lazy asses and not leave work till a real bill is passed?
