More power to O'Malley, still think the UFC overestimated his star power for this event. Besides the main event the card is kinda shit imo (I like the co-main a little).
Dana just sucks at promoting at this stage in his life/career.
(People don't see it because the UFC is making loads of money riding their PAST success and brand recognition.)
He went to the Sphere and it looked really cool.
He said over and over again they will "do the best live sports event in the history of live sports or events"
But has no actual ability to communicate to anyone WHY exactly this event will be so wonderful.
The card is weak as fuck and incredibly underwhelming for "The greatest live sports event in all of ever"
He is so wildly out of touch that he doesn't grasp that fans aren't impressed by "because trust me bro, just give me $3000"
and will resort to his typical "everyone who doesn't agree with me is stupid" routine, again just brutally lacking self awareness.
They spent stupid money because Dana is rich and his go to way to deal with things is to throw money at them (fairly typical for out of touch rich guys).
They DIDN'T spend money on putting a decent card together.
His best actual fact based promoting of this whole slow motion train wreck is "Because Mexicans"
(Meanwhile actual Mexicans are way more likely to be BOXING FANS and be more interested in the Canelo fight the same night for less money.)
It's a comedy of errors and in my opinion just shines a giant spotlight on Dana and how wildly out of touch and surrounded by yes men who won't call him on his bullshit he is.
It's a mix of "emperor's new clothes" and "sunk cost fallacy"
