Sean O'Malley is NOT a Star.

Sean proves some McGregor haters wrong

UFC cannot magically just create a huge star.

It’s up to the fighter as well to gain that ppv buying popularity

What's your criteria for being a star?
I'm sure there's many variables. I'm strickly focusing on ppv sells and ticket sells for this one. I,'m sure I'll enjoy the event like everyone else, but the only one that could sell severely overpriced tickets is Conor, O'Malley needed a supporting cast to sell.

See that's your problem. You've slotted Conor in as the baseline for what a star is when he's an outlier.

That's pretty crazy you take the biggest star by far in the history of the sport and that's your baseline.

He’s not a superstar by any means but I think he’s pretty popular and his fighting style will pick up fans regardless if he keeps winning.

Well, O'Malley did say he was gonna be as big as Conor or bigger.

Yes O'Malley said he was gonna be as big as Conor, therefore the baseline for being a star in the UFC is Conor??!?!

Jesus fucking christ, sherdog is worse than I thought.

The point of the thread is that O'Malley needs a supporting cast to sell. It's more shitting on the UFC for delivering a lackluster card when they sold us on this "epic" card.

Your right he's not a star.

HEs A HUMAN!

o'malley has many of the traits needed to be a huge star. the one thing that i think will keep him from reaching the conor or ronda level of stardom, even if he keeps winning, is due to his low energy. while he is an interesting character, he doesn't have a lively personality. all the big stars have bigger-than-life personalities. jones, conor, ronda, the diaz bros, etc. all the fighters who bring in the ppv's have it. the tough stoner persona of o'malley only reaches a certain niche portion of the fanbase. the huge stars are universal. that's not o'malley.

More power to O'Malley, still think the UFC overestimated his star power for this event. Besides the main event the card is kinda shit imo (I like the co-main a little).

Dana just sucks at promoting at this stage in his life/career.
(People don't see it because the UFC is making loads of money riding their PAST success and brand recognition.)

He went to the Sphere and it looked really cool.

He said over and over again they will "do the best live sports event in the history of live sports or events"

But has no actual ability to communicate to anyone WHY exactly this event will be so wonderful.

The card is weak as fuck and incredibly underwhelming for "The greatest live sports event in all of ever"

He is so wildly out of touch that he doesn't grasp that fans aren't impressed by "because trust me bro, just give me $3000"
and will resort to his typical "everyone who doesn't agree with me is stupid" routine, again just brutally lacking self awareness.

They spent stupid money because Dana is rich and his go to way to deal with things is to throw money at them (fairly typical for out of touch rich guys).

They DIDN'T spend money on putting a decent card together.

His best actual fact based promoting of this whole slow motion train wreck is "Because Mexicans"
(Meanwhile actual Mexicans are way more likely to be BOXING FANS and be more interested in the Canelo fight the same night for less money.)

It's a comedy of errors and in my opinion just shines a giant spotlight on Dana and how wildly out of touch and surrounded by yes men who won't call him on his bullshit he is.

It's a mix of "emperor's new clothes" and "sunk cost fallacy"

both dana and rogan have become old-timers who need to exit in order to bring in fresh blood. like they got rid of goldberg, the same has to happen with rogan. and dana hasn't been needed for a while. he's a detriment to the ufc at this point. hunter campbell is really running things. maybe bring in chael. a guy who still gets it and i truly believe has much less of an ego than dana and will be fair (relatively speaking) to the fighters.

100% agree. Dana also said no one's gonna want to follow the event at the Sphere after they see his show. Lol, his delusional fight against illegal streaming is pretty funny too. Dana is just a delusional rich jackass at this point who think's he's still in his 20's.

He is right too.

After seeing what a gigantic clusterfuck the UFC made out of this and knowing how much money they are losing, probably a lot less productions are going to want to do a show at the Sphere.

Also if a guy says he is going to be BIGGER than McGregor, then it seems just fine to have McGregor as his baseline lol

I don't dislike O'Malley either, I think his gimmick is stupid (to each their own). People and their feelings, poor babies.

I can understand him being popular with tide pod eating kids, but if you’re a grown ass man looking at that guy and saying wow, he’s so cool, then you’re pretty sad and pathetic.
Wait, they're eating Tide dishwashing pods now? Did I miss something? Haha

Yeah Sean was their attempt to do "if you claim it, they will come" for promotion. A guy with 0.0 evidence of pull but the UFC told us all "superstar in the making" up to and including fixing fights in his favor.

As soon as he loses they'll toss that experiment to the side.
Fixing fights? Lol wtf

Sean O'Malley is not a big star and can't carry UFC 306 by himself. As we already know ticket sells are abysmal and the UFC stands to lose big on this event.

UFC 292, Sterling vs O'Malley
UFC 299, O'Malley vs Vera 2
First, if you remember Aljo mentioned that he twas shocked at how bad 292 sold. Also Dana never mentioned ppv numbers for these two events neither. This tells you everything you need to know imo. He'd be the first one to brag if they did anything worth while.

I personally feel that the UFC over estimated O'Malley's star power and they're gonna lose big on this event imo.

I think he’s extremely overrated and I think he will be exposed soon
A good wrestler will twist his noodle arms into pretzels
A good kicker will chop him down easily with this toothpicks he has for legs
I can’t wait for him to be humbled but I don’t think staph guy is the one
That’s just me though

Yup, he's gonna knock that staph right outta ole brainless in afraid.
