Law SCOTUS: Apex Court of Last Resort

Even if it’s all three in unison, at what point does it end?

My solution for ‘fixing’ the court would be:

All current jurors would be grandfathered with their current tenure.

Newly promoted justices would serve for 18 years maximum.

No justice shall be the recipient of any ‘gift’ of any kind and will receive yearly audits to ensure adherence.

This seems like the best way to go about it IMO but I’m open to suggestions.

I would also limit senators and congressmen to the 18 year limit.

Agree… good place to start

Specify:

Republican President? Or MAGA fascist?

Is the Senate balanced? Or is a guy like McConnel in charge who is prepared to make up nonsense rules only to turn right around and break them?

Hahahahaha….

You’re such a clown

Would you still support Congress adding 4 seats under a Republican president?
Sure why not? Thems the breaks, this is the system we have.

We saw Mitch fuck over dems when Obama was potus, and then rush through a pick when Trump was about to lose bigly, so it’s not like they’re above it. As long as the justices think they run the country I say either fix the problem or go ahead and dilute their power.

Specify what? My question was extremely clear. If you are not capable of understanding it no amount of clarification will ever help you.

Yea, the Senate is pretty damn well balanced as is the House, the way they should be. If you understand how Congress works you would understand McConnell isn't in charge of anything, he is a senator just like the other 99. It is really weird that you even bring him up specifically in this discussion. Did he wedgy you in high school or something?

Obama had a super majority Senate on his side and still didn't do shit. It is crazy how everytime Democrats are in office they always state the reason they don't do anything is because the Republicans are in charge.

Based on the government you want I think you would make a great slave in China or Russia, but good luck achieving that dream, they enforce immigration laws.

Wow. So a long string of words to reveal yourself as little more than making an attempt at a papartisan gotcha"...asking you to be a bit more detailed in your imaginary scenario shouldnt have caused this much of a conversational meltdown on your part. It was a simple question of what kind of Republican Presidency you envisioned, and you behaved as if you have a wedgie right this second.

Also here is a newsflash, McConnell is the current Senate Minority Leader. He is literally in charge of the ENTIRE Republican Party that is sitting in the Senate. And this would be obvious to you if you had the slightest clue what you were talking about, because he's more than infuriated the Sedition Caucus in the House by not backing their plays. He is THE reason there is something of a rift between Senate Republicans who play more savvy politics, and far right lunatic hardliners in the House...and he's still the type of @sshole who shoehorned in the least qualified SCOTUS Justice in US History via breaking the rule he invented about not approving Justices during election years.

Next time you get asked a question about how Government functions in the US try thinking about it before responding like a 15 year-old who just learned hes getting a D in Civics.

Haha, that wedgy joke really got to you didn't it? Probably not Mitch himself but definitely a Republican based on all that irrational hatred and nonsense you just posted.

We’re talking about scotus. How was Obama’s supermajority in 2009-10 supposed to do anything about majority leader Mitch’s giant fuck you to voters in 2016 and 2020, genius?

And if you support 9 people having lifetime appointments and giving the exec total power over the doj and immunity from crimes, while they take millions in bribes and laugh at congress, then you might be the willing slave, comrade.

ACB? It's usually Clarence that (some) people (who despise him) claim is the most egregiously unqualified. His appointment to the court was well before my time and I've yet to watch the confirmation hearings in full, but it seems like it was one hell of a show.

No she was the least qualified on paper. I remember his appointment vaguely. I was a young man at the time, too busy drinking and chasing tail.

They were both technically "DEI" hires, although you wouldn't ever see anybody complain about it, lol. There was no chance in hell that Thurgood Marshall was going to be replaced by anything other than another black judge and H.W. managed to snag one of highly preferable jurisprudence. RBG's vacancy was a virtual certainty to be filled by a woman, and what an irony that the one chosen to replace a feminist icon ruled in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade.

Not ever. The idea that SCOTUS justices should be super qualified is fairly new. Most justices haven't had law degrees. One didn't even graduate high school (though he was an impressive guy overall). I'd agree that ACB is the least qualified in a few decades, though.

RBG really went from Leftist Icon to someone who really screwed her “side”.

The Federalist Society understood the importance of keeping the appearance of diversity, yet the prevalence of ideology. However what I really think they understood was the Senate's power to push through problematic appointees. From Thomas being a pervert to ACB belonging to a cultish sect of Catholicism that mandates all her decisions be approved by her husband. This also seems like a reason they pick people who seen like ideological hardliners, until you look at how egregiously corporatist their rulings are. Harlan Crow's political donations went up over 800% after Citizens United, thanks to the PAC structure.

This is an unfair assessment. Are Justices supposed to strategically plan their illness and death? Thurgood Marshall lived until 4 days after Clinton's inauguration. Had he remained Thomas would never have been a thing.

The problem of corruption and ideological capture is bigger than a Justic retirirng.

Come on, man. She should have stepped down guaranteeing a justice elected by Obama.

Yeah but you can say that for either of them. But only she ever gets openly chastised for it. Also Obama did have an appointment, and McConnell blocked it by refusing to even proceed. The problem is bigger than just her.

Woke say that about both. RGB especially. She was fighting cancer and nearing the end of her life.

The reversal of Roe v. Wade was not about constricting rights but about returning the power to make such decisions to the states and the people, adhering to the Constitution's original framework.

This is objectively false.

If it were true, then Republicans wouldn't have tried to keep abortion ballot initiatives from appearing on the ticket during elections.

Also, don't forget that the Republican Supreme Court justices that were confirmed by Republicans during the Trump era specifically said that they would not overturn Roe during approval hearings.

Why did they lie about this? Lol
