for a lot of males, I guess he's some sort of ideal but I always thought guys like him, Van Damme, Seagal, etc., were just terrible. Seagal isn't even that bad an actor but just his attitude rubbed me wrong. Arnold, for what it's worth, had often just came off like a total dick. Reading about how Stallone's body compared to his or watching the Pumping Iron scenes where he fucks with a sympathetic Ferrigno or talks about cumming all the time. Part of that's me, I never liked people talking that kind of shit to me for absolutely no reason, and men are often like that, even older men and it's a major reason i hate going to gyms today. I hate being fucked with, especially by people I could kill if I needed to. Leave people alone. The thing he had was he was absolutley bursting at the seams with natural charisma and physical presence. It made him watchable no matter what role you put him in, but obviously the Terminator and Conan roles were tailor made for him.
By the time we got to Predator in 1987 we didnt give a shit about his accent, or acting, thats what we paid to see!
As far as the acting, had he not done the casting couch allegedly, he would have never even gotten movies that anyone wanted to see. Those were decent to really good/great movies without his contributions. Anyone with a body could have pulled some of those roles off. It did not hurt that he was intelligent and made great choices and was strategic just like he was with bodybuilding. There is no arguing his work ethic or pragmatism.
Also, I like the Arnold of today, watching him speak in an elder's tone in an encouraging manner with utter sincerity after the Charlie Kirk shooting about how we need to work things out, that is not the same guy from the 70's and 80's.
