Yes. And we do have values and norms. In sex, things like consent, safety and hygiene are values and norms that still matter. They haven't always mattered, but they definitely matter today. Whereas things that once mattered, like chastity, gender norms, etc. don't matter so much anymore.

I think it's a good thing. The world would be a better place if people were have more good, safe sex and weren't made to feel bad for it or the types of sex they prefer.

I have a daughter who is five, and another daughter on the way. I don't have a set age where I say it's okay if they have sex. Nor am I stupid enough to think that my preference on the matter of when sex is okay is going to have much influence on it. Instead, the plan is to teach them both how to have safe, fulfilling sex lives. That includes helping them know when they are ready for sex. I was raised the same way, and talked frankly and openly with my parents about sex, both before I was ready for sex and once I was having sex. I benefited immensely from being able to seek advice from adults who had my best interests at heart. While it will be tough sometimes, I hope to be as good a parent to my daughters as my parents were to me because in the end I'd rather have influence as a parent than be in the dark and actively deceived, which is how I saw most families handle it.

I wouldn't want him to have random meaningless sex as a 17 year old, but if he was in a long term relationship I don't know that I'd really have a problem with it in late high school. That age could go up if he had emotional problems or other issues that made me think he couldn't handle it, but ultimately I don't have a ton of control over it after he gets to his mid teens.

I do hope that whatever he chooses to do he does responsibly and that he knows well enough to not get someone pregnant or get an STD.

Honestly some people on here sound like they actually are 15. Look, I'll tell you what sex ed was like when I was in high school, about 15 years ago: they told us about birth control, they showed us a video where a guy showed us how to put a condom on a dildo (it was presented in a funny manner, but showed the right way to do it), they told us about std's. They told us that there's ways to minimize your risk of unwanted pregnancy or std's, but the only way to make sure is abstinence. No moralizing, no telling us what we need to do. But everything they said was true, right? So would you guys have a problem with that?

And yes, all teenagers wanna fuck, but for the most part it would be better if the younger ones didn't. Their minds aren't fully developed. I'm sure you've all heard the stories about 13 and 14 year olds killing themselves after some pic they sexted to a dude gets passed around the school or whatever. There's teen pregnancy, there's std's....it's not the school boards job to put chastity belts on these kids, but if they can educate them to the realities of the situation, they've done their job.
