Social Scandinavia trip suggestions

the major cities are great, copenhagen, stockholm, oslo. gothenburg on the west coast of sweden was nice since it was away from most tourists. the landscapes are amazing. i wish i would have gone to finland while i was in stockholm. i was so close.

I have been to all these places and did not experience any racism. Not to say it doesnt exist....but it's not something I would tell someone to not visit the place over.

If possible, I’d earnestly consider your 8-10 days in late April or early May. You can then hit up places like Trollstigen for Norway and make some cool memories.

Its such a unique area where people carved out for themselves their own rules, and obviously liked it enough to spend their entire lives there.

i agree. i'm not saying it to deter people from going. but i do want to be honest about my experience. the racism/anti-immigrant sentiment took place in a smaller town, which i guess is to be expected. this was twenty years ago, so probably things have changed. in the major cities i didn't see any of that.

Are you driving or flying between them? driving I would say Copenhagen to Oslo to Bergen is a good route which takes you though pretty spectacular landscapes between Oslo and Bergen. Flying then maybe just Copenhagen and Stockholm as the two most interesting cities, maybe do some kind of cruise/boat trip of the islands around Stockholm?

lol, i've just returned from Denmark, i've been there for about a month, been from Copenhagen to the Jutland peninsula, but honestly, it's kinda miserable in winter, you'd be better off going in may or june. Copenhagen is nice to throw a few days at, but the nature is what you want to see, when you get away from cities is quickly turns primordial. you'll find it weird how the sun sits differently in the sky. if i were to choose though, i'd probably try Norway/Sweden/Finland.

It's why I don't live there. I just can't handle the miserable weather and the fact that summer falls on a Thursday in late May.

Yeah but there's less cool nature shit than Sweden and Norway has.

Even if you go to a city Stockholm and Oslo, going out to see some kick ass nature is really easy.

Trying to get suggestions on places and things to see. Iceland is out of the question. Any compelling reason to go to one over the other?

If you're traveling in April and starting in Copenhagen, I would recommend (as a Scandinavian myself) that you head over to Malmö and spend a night there after Copenhagen. Forget about anyone who scares you by saying Malmö is dangerous; it's no more dangerous than Copenhagen and is a cool, multicultural city. Take an evening to dine at Lilla or Stora Torg.

After Malmö, I would take the train to Gothenburg, as it's on the way to Oslo. Make sure to see the archipelago before you finish your trip in Norway.

If you have a few extra days, I would suggest visiting Stockholm and taking a party ferry to Finland.

Yes I spent some days in Malmö myself, and did not encounter any issues. There are problems there, but it's the same as any other city.
