We're not all from a prime scallop area like you are. Many people have never had a big fat fresh scallop. They have no idea how extraordinary it is. Scallops all the way for me.

I never considered this - didn't realize how scalloped privileged I am

I always took it for granted

I love a variety of seafood but I've never had a seafood Paella. Now I'm thinking I need to find one. Its generally cooked in one big pot and can have different recipes but basically its a variety of shrimp, muscles, fish, lobster, etc. and its traditionally served with rice but there are variations on that as well.

All things being equal, I prefer scallops but shrimp is much more versatile so that gets the nod.

Skrimp and it aint even close.

Scallops are good tho

I made myself one last week using Quinoa as the base instead of rice and it was surprisingly great. I loaded it with shrimp, scallops and big chunks of fresh arctic Char all from my favorite fish monger. I should have took some pic's for the foodie thread.
Foodie thread?

I seemed to have missed that, I cook a lot and like to do interesting stuff from time to time.

I made a video catching , cleaning , prepping and cooking redfish on the half shell. I need to finish the video editing and post it up

I still want to know if people are eating bay or sea scallops in this thread, and if they even know the difference

Scallops are about the only seafood I'm not a big fan of, shrimp (or prawns down here) FTMFW.

I was once in the Horseshoe casino eating at Binion's Steakhouse and they had a special of the day for appetizer called Coconut Prawn and it was served with an orange mamelade. Anyway, point of the story is they bring it to me and it was the biggest shrimp I've ever seen. Served with a fork and a knife so you could eat it like a steak. I had no idea prawn got that big. Delicious.

Years back in KL(Kuala Lumpur ) I’m at this Asian restaurant and the English translations were extremely basic, I ask how many prawns come on the prawn and vegatble plate.

Lady says one, I’m like no I need like 10 she says no too big.

I say six, she says I’ll bring you two. Eat those and you can order more. Also she tells me these are tiger prawn, I’m like ok I’ve had tiger shrimp before same thing.

WRONG, these fucking things were the size of my arm. Couldn’t finish them both lol

For real. I couldn't believe this prawn they brought to me. It was huge. It was supposed to be an appetizer but it was more like a meal. I can't stress to people who have never seen a large prawn what that's like. When you think shrimp, you think hand food, you pick it up, you put it in your mouth. Not a prawn you don't. I ate that with a fork and knife.

i was at a restaurant last night, and i was accidentally given fried scallops instead of the tots i asked for. i started eating them, and i was like what's this? i probably shouldn't have, but i kept eating them lol. finally, the bartender says that they gave them to me accidentally, and i felt kinda bad and acted surprised lol. they said not to worry about it, and let me finish them and then brought me my tots. the point of my story, is that now i'm going to start ordering scallops as an appetizer lol.

Scallops basically have no flavor. Atlantic scallops have a fishy taste, and are decent, but most scallops only compliment other more favorable foods and aren't that good on their own.

Skrimp on the other hand. Thems good eatin'.

<PlusJuan>

Scallops are OK in dishes, but they’re too bland on their own.

Shrimp. All day, er day!

I really would like scampi and chips right now!

God, yes! But I do love shrimp too.72E52E93-02B3-4E91-ACDF-BD19DD366DEC.jpeg

If the shrimp is jumbo enough to taste like lobster, and that's really jumbo, I give it the edge.. But since that's so rare, I'll go scallops, because they are awesome at anything bigger than small.
