Law Scalia Died today

I can't say I agreed with Scalia's ideology and voting record, but the man did spend his life serving our country. For that, he deserves respect.

Heller was only 5-4
If Obama gets another judge the Second Amendment may be dead
Even a liberal majority in the SC would never allow the repealing of the 2nd. They may vote to uphold local gun ordinances but that doesn't mean the amendment is dead.

Besides, precedent has been set with that case, making it even harder to go back.

I like this one best:

If you're going to be a good and faithful judge, you have to resign yourself to the fact that you're not always going to like the conclusions you reach. If you like them all the time, you're probably doing something wrong.

I don't know why The republican senators wants to delay an appointment for a year. It's not like Hillary will pick another Scalia. Her pick will probably be more liberal than Obama's.

Well they're holding out hope for President Cruz.

Didn't agree with every decision he made but on balance I felt he respected the constitution and had a brilliant mind. Will be missed.

Fivethirtyeight has an article out

Obama Won’t Be Able To Replace Scalia With A Justice As Liberal As Sotomayor
The death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia today set off a scramble in a deeply polarized Washington over his replacement on the court. Within hours of the announcement of Scalia’s death, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said a vote should wait for the next president to be elected. He and the Republican majority in the Senate can impose extensive delays on any confirmation vote.
But if Obama is able to get consideration for a nominee, history and common sense suggest that it will be very difficult for him to win approval for judicial candidates with the qualifications and ideological backgrounds of his first two nominees, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

No matter what, it'll be a drekstorm when Pres. Obama makes his nomination for Jude Scalia's seat...

Perhaps you should read the article before commenting.

Perhaps you should view the PDF accompanied in the article. Which, without detail, gives Sotomayor a .8/1 (1 being considered most qualified). Which is laughable considering she's never served as a judge prior to being nominated.

While we disagree, I am grateful that you can at least acknowledge my consistency on the issues. But I have to say; I wish I had anywhere near the intellect that Jack has. He's passionate about liberal and human rights issues and he's very intelligent. These are good things.

Your boy Jack supports Clinton.
You're a Hitchens fan if I recall, you should search Christpoher's opinion on Hillary.

So a Supreme Court Justice dies and they want to prevent the presiding president from nominating a new justice. We have some great Constitutionalists here.

Let's all follow the constitution until we disagree with it and then we should twist to suit our needs.

Perhaps I'm wrong but wasn't this guy like one poster boys for far right wing conservative ideology.
