Russia allegedly claims the suspect in the car bombing is "Natalya Vovk", a member of Azov regiment, who left her ID card and fled to Estonia.

Well that seems silly. No way it's that high, because then you'd have to double or triple the amount of wounded and the entire Russian force that invaded Ukraine in February would be dead or wounded, but we know that isn't the case. I'd put Russian losses in killed at probably 20-25k at this point.

Plus, Russia has hit Ukraine with over 1100 ballistic missiles during this period. Was nobody killed in those strikes? 9k just doesn't seem believable.

The Ukranian casualties are probably very high at this point as well, considering the level of conscription they've been doing, and are also almost certainly significantly higher than the Russian casualties. They've essentially admitted this but of course we don't have published numbers for obvious reasons.

I have doubts about it being higher than Russia for the conscription reason.

Ukraine has been at war for 8 years leading up to this invasion so they have an incredibly large amount of veterans. 100k+ region. This massive increase has an incredibly large amount of trained soldiers returning compared to most conscription efforts. Having trained soldiers of that quantity come back allows you to more easily place the general conscripts in suitable roles. Which substantially detracts from the problems faced with large conscription.

Yeah the initial stages were a shit show but that's to be expected. There's going to be people fighting on the front that shouldn't be. Local militias taking on roles that they have no place attempting. General fucking chaos.

But Russia fucked up the initial phase in rather spectacular fashion. Withdrew after a bit over a month and gave Ukraine time while they reorganized for the Donbas offensive.

Officials with FSB have identified Darya Dugina’s alleged assassin as 43-year-old Natalia Vovk, who they said was acting as part of a criminal plot “orchestrated and perpetrated by Ukrainian special services,” according to Russian state news agency TASS.

I think they were pushing for more military involvement than is already occurring. I guess any kind of dissenter to Putin regardless it being for more troops or less troops would be dealt with the same way? Any dissent could be a threat?

According to this the Ukrainian army only had a few thousand men left at the start of August.

I guess the real number is somewhere between 9000 and "much higher" than 193,000.

MOSCOW, August 8. /TASS/. The Ukrainian army’s irretrievable losses may exceed 193,000 service members since the beginning of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, Spokesman for the DPR (Donetsk People’s Republic) Militia Eduard Basurin said on Monday.

"This has to be mentioned. The figure will, perhaps, even be much higher. These are the figures that they give. I believe that the scope may even be larger," Basurin said in a live broadcast on Russia’s TV Channel One, responding to a question by the anchorman about whether he could confirm the information that the Ukrainian military’s irretrievable losses amounted to 193,000 service members, as reported by Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny, according to some media outlets’ data.

As the spokesman for the DPR people’s militia specified, irretrievable losses included killed military personnel and crippled service members who could not rejoin the troops.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics for assistance he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in Ukraine.


The West retaliated by imposing numerous large-scale sanctions on Russia. Along with this move, Western countries ramped up the deliveries of weapons and military hardware worth billions of US dollars to the Kiev regime.
