We aren't stupid not to get that russia's target is to deUkrainize and submit all Ukraine sooner or later.
Any negotiatons with Russia will be useless...

Not that this is what I want, but it seems to me that Russia can't just take Donbass and claim victory. At the very least they have to conquer a buffer zone outside the Donbass to defend it. They also have to get more territory so that they can negotiate a peace while keeping the Donbass (e.g.: we give you back this all territories except Donbass, in exchange you recognize our souvereignty over the Donbass).

I can see Russia completing their main goals in that time. How much longer than that could it take? They don't have much more to do. In terms of the Ukranians coming to terms with their loss of territory and the war formally ending that's far less predictable.

Regardless of the presence or absence of a formal result... do you see the fighting ending within 1-2 months?

Capturing the territories doesn't really mean much unless they can actually hold them. If the fighting doesn't stop, I don't think Russia can afford to be stuck in a quagmire long term.

I believe Ukraine has no chance of taking the territories back.

In terms of fighting ending that's a different story.

Valid point. I can't see them giving up the land connection to Crimea. That's why I thought maybe the north would be the " victory " for Ukraine

The whole war is based on a lie (heard that before). The majority of Russian citizens actually believe that Ukrainians is being run by Nazis. You can see videos online of their citizens believing all the lies when questioned.

They are likely to attack Eastern Provinces areas and mostly targeting civilians.

There are many in Eastern Province of Ukraine that didn't like what the Ukrainian government was doing to them and to the Eastern Ukrainian people there who lived for many years.

Those people are stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have more sympathy though for the ones that are Ukrainian and love their country but don't want to be pushed off their land.

I get that some are ethnically Russian and would prefer Russian leadership but they are the minority in the country and can't just annex land. It seems a bit similar to a CHAZ scenario if they had backing from Canada. Nobody here would be OK with that.
