The stuff is that mando service can't automatically increase equipment etc + pro and national guard etc services too should be kept + with all expenses on purchases of course...
If there quickly mando conscripts will be added...
Then with 2,3-2,5 % from GDP will not be enough....
+ Imho to get more random lads isn't like to get more SAM stuff or MRLS or even mortars....
From the little i understand (i'm absolutely not an expert) boost numbers with random guys may be useful to do relatively "easier" stuff so you can use the true expert soldiers where actually you need them, and you have a reserve bit more trained compared to just give a rifle to the bakery guy and tell him you're a soldier now... or better, it's exactly what you do, but bakery guy at least got 1 year of training
Plus Lituania have very small population, number of actual professional soldier probably guess is'nt that big
If Lituania get attacked no way west does'nt enter the conflict
They're NATO + They're EU + if russians manage to conquer a stripe of land that link Belarus with the small piece of Russia (one at south-west of Lituania) they would isolate Lituania, Latvia and Estonia from the rest of Europe and would be bad for 99 other reasons
So i guess idea behind mandatory service is that tech toys and special troops will be given for free by the western allies, but -if needed- the big number of footsoldiers thing will still be up to the locals
On "bright" side i really doubt atm current Russia is able to open another, even more complex front while they're still struggling to get out of Ukraine (as long Putin is king, they can't leave if they don't win something that justify what they lost in this war) and tbh that situation i doubt is going to end soon, specially considering that russian army on ukranian soil even conquering nothing definitive still prevent the west to do some steps to incorporate Ukraine, keeping it to some extent the buffer zone (an heavy price one) russians want between themselves and NATO
So if Russia is busy in Ukraine, maybe Lituania is simply thinking not much about today, but just further aknowledge that if in future shit hit the fan, they would be one of the logical first targets
And if shit reach the point Russia is ok to attack a NATO nation it mean it's a very large scale shit (WW3) and in such scenario is possible other allies are busy themselves and can't help till the day they win shit at their home
That's my 2cents, but again i have zero military knowledge
