In 2021 th Ukr didn't had get even provided so called roadmap (MAP) : stuff usually NATO candidates does have before applied...nor they had applied for membership nor had been invited. Literally had the same partner status vs NATO like Russia then [2021] had.

Ukr knew that a a lot of EU countries politicians doesn't want to see Ukr in EU.
Ukr even didn't had get candidate status ( this is 0 worth paper but they does provide instructions how to prepare for potential membership ...absolute 0 ).

Ukr had situation when some important countries had refused to SELL them heavy weapons and manpads.

Ofc if you are Zelensky you might continue to talk that they will accept Ukr as member ( LOL)....life in dreams.

Then before invasion U.S demonstrated weakness: they relocated navy ships from Black Sea. Despite Bulgaria, Turkey and Romania are NATO countries. So they does have valid reason to be in Black Sea.

Dear God. Do you read what you write? Z is bit of a knob, for sure. But it certainly isn't his fault that civilians are being killed by missiles from Russia. Missiles from that massive knob, and then our own fucking knob in the USA that could have made it harder to kill said civilians.
