UKR is advancing in the South.

in one year they haven't gained much since their first counter offensive. they haven't even regained bakhmut, yet.

if there is progress, it's slow. that plays into the russian's hands.

Why they need regain Bakhmut ASAP and at any cost if they might shell Bakhmut from heights located nearly to Bakhmut?

Bakhmut ofc does have some value for ....propaganda.
Also ofc it had high financial value until ....battle for Bakhmut....

Roads and railroad are damaged, city is rubble + minefield.... useless for living...

lots of lives were lost for something so invaluable. you may be right but it seems both sides thought it was well worth the fight.

Most likely Ukr unlike with Soledar and Severodonestk, at least managed to install enough mines etc stuff.
Therefore in such situation forces attacking are bearing more losses in manpower than if there aren't huge minefields etc ...plus defenders...

Maybe this was reason why Ukr kept Bakhmut so long.

Obiviously russia had considerably more losses than Ukr and these weren't just some untrained prisoners or mobiks.

While now ofc stuff by logic is different if Ukr will order to take Bakhmut for any price.

Soledar btw will be more awful than for Russia was Azovstal....
Ukr IMHO IF will manage encircle Soledar, should starve them out not directly attack city... otherwise ukr will need to purchase mobile crematoriums...

Why has Tucker Carlson been so against any aid to Ukraine from the beginning? He was espousing conspiracy theories saying US soldiers were fighting there. Even going against his FOX news colleagues.
Because Biden bad. It never had anything to do with the right or wrong of supporting Ukraine for him or the Maga muppets. It’s simply about them wallowing in their partisan bullshit

Surovikin (chief commander of the air force and former commander of all Russia's forces in Ukraine) has been fired as per the news today. This should be a good lesson for all of us in how Moscow does things: people are not immediately sacked and thrown to the curb while public attention is on them. Surovikin was seen as close to Wagner and Prigozhin and dropped out of public eye after the rebellion.

Putin's method is to sideline people for a while until attention moves elsewhere and then drop the axe when the timing suits him.

Prigozhin would do well to keep that in mind.

what gains?

The counter offensive started a couple months ago not a year against an army that was waiting for them. Doesnt mean panic and throw in the white flag right away. They are wearing them down and making gains hopefully the pace can pick up with minimal loses....time will tell.

Lots of StarCraft generals don't understand how actual wars are fought.

IIRC Before the invasion last year Russia by proxy controlled 14% of Ukraine.
At the height of the invasion Russia controlled 27% of Ukraine.
Today Russia is controlling (I see different figures) 20%
So in more than one year Russia has only manage increase their occupied area with 6%.... Was it worth the price?

But some how its the Ukrainian failing and not doing well.

Danish news TV2 is in Russia and have some access to the country.
I copy paste a little bit here, they are travelling around the country and this is from a town near the Ukrainian boarder that have seen bombs hitting

"Many of the attacks are intercepted by Russian air defense systems, and the destruction in Russia is on a completely different scale than the extensive material and human costs in Ukraine.
The assumption is that Ukraine is trying to scare the Russian population and thereby weaken support for the war. But among the residents of Shebekino who want to speak to TV 2, the reaction is to a greater extent an increased anger towards Ukraine.

It can never be Russia's own fault, says the reaction.
- No, 100 percent no, replies construction manager Nikita Olejnikov.
He does not believe that the two situations are comparable, although the Ukrainian civilian population is also exposed to daily attacks.
- Yes, but that's politics. We are ordinary people and must protect our interests, he says to TV 2.

The situation and the atmosphere in the city eventually means that TV 2's broadcasters choose to leave the area."

So with the recent attacks on Russian territory inside Russia, its quickly escalating towards nuclear war. I am now predicting that if Russia continues to take heavy losses, nuclear war is inevitable.

USA might think they have the upper hand now, but when China attacks, the US and NATO are going to shit their pants.

This is a real possibility, and anyone who things this isn't possible is an idiot. It's getting closer.

From what I read and listen to, this is a war being fought by two Soviet era armies, largely in accordance with Soviet doctrine.

Neither side has air superiority because of the strength of the other sides anti air capabilities.

I don’t see how even a 100 F-16s has any bearing on the war. Ukraine is not and cannot fight how the US does, and so what will be their role?

Interested to hear any views on this.
