Have you read much of this thread? Applying Roseanne's actions to others is most of what is happening here.

To me this entire thing is simple. Roseann's politics aren't shared by her network, but they didn't care because it was a popular show. Then Roseanne took to twitter or somesuch and made nasty racial/religiously bigoted comments. To add to the problem, the comment wasn't even funny. We've seen the whole build up of outrage leading to boycott, leading to belated action quite a few times now. The network got out in front of all that and fired her ass and dumped her show. I'm glad they did it quickly. Less mess that way imo.

Yeah pretty much. If her comment had been clever or hilarious you could excuse its nastiness. Instead it was just an ugly cheap shot. No excuse for it.

For me it is right in both cases. Though I am happy with the compromise the NFL reached where no players will be forced to stand for the anthem, but have the choice to remain in the locker room. It's the first smart reaction they've had imo.

I don't like the idea of employers checking up on what their employees are doing or saying online. I don't like the idea that an otherwise competent employee can be punished for wrong think. That said, public figures like celebrities, politicians, etc will be held to account for things they say and do that hurt their company's image (or undermine the public trust in the gov't).

That's because you're consistent. Ironically, it's a guy with "irony" in his username who posted a meme that one is "exercising 1st amendment" while the other is "saying racist shit". Guess which one he agrees with. It's fine for both, but let's not pretend that stupid meme couldn't be posted the same way in the opposite direction.

I'm not alt-right, but sometimes alt right is used here as an insinuation of racism and other times it isn't. There was just recently a long debate in the War Room about whether Jordan Peterson is alt right or whether people were calling him that as a low key slander.

The term alt-right is used to most commonly refer to actual right-wing in the US, the modifier "alt" being the equivalent of "lite" or "diet" in the world of soft drinks, but overused to the point of losing any and all of its meaning. While not all racists are right-wingers, a large portion of right-wingers are racist so the overlap, while not full, is significant.
