I don't what's more funny Roseanne blowing a great opportunity by being an idiot. Or MAGA people trying to get Bill Maher fired because he called Trump a orangutan a few years back.

Agreed that she was fired for a action.

That said, you highlighted a problematic area for me. Should employees be expected to agree with their employers. Are they not allowed to disagree with their company's "positions"? I feel like that can give large companies and corporations (and mom and pops too) too much power over their employees. That said,in places where speech like Barr's can be reasonably expected to be hurtful to the company's bottom line, I can agree with their reaction.

I don't really know where to draw the line, but I think it is wrong in most cases for a conservative employee to fire an employee if they find out they vote Democrat or vice versa. I agree with you that saying racist stuff to a customer ought to be a firable offense, but would you fire an employee because their online comments led you to believe they had racist views?

For me the line is drawn when that person has either an explicit connection to the business or holds a public profile associated with them.

Explicit could be that they list on their social media profile that they work for company XYZ and therefore connect their comments in some way shape or form with the business.

A public profile could be a sports star or actor, someone whose public profile generates income for the business. Their actions will inherently be associated with the business and misconduct on their part will have clear financial costs to them.
