Again, it's not about the 3 pounds - neither fighter is going to be 185 when they step in the cage - it's the stress of the cut.

Rockhold had to drain himself to make weight, those last few pounds being the toughest. Yoel didn't.

It's not about 3 lbs, it's the fact that Luke drained himself and went through hell to make the cut but Yoel didn't even try. The advantage is Luke is drained, not 3 pounds weight difference in and of itself.

to be fair, he hasnt done anything wrong. He had his first opponent pull out due to injury then his second opponent misses weight. You have to feel for Rockhold here. We need to put our bias aside. I dont agree with him not accepting the fight but he has every right to.

Agreed. Luke may or not be a douchebag. Don't really know. But looking at this from his perspective, I would be pretty fucking livid as well and expect the UFC to pony up if they wanted my participation.

First he is going to fight in Australia, his opponents home arena essentially, for the undisputed title. Whitaker gets injured, but he agrees to fight for the interim title instead. Definitely a step back.

It was a short notice fight, but not really short notice. Yoel had over a month to make the weight.

All things considered, I would be demanding more as well.

Romero's show money vs Whittaker was $350K for an interim title fight, which this is as well. He's probably at least getting the same sum for this fight if not more.

So 20% of his purse is likely going to be significant for Rockhold. Not one of these fighters whose opponent will only get a few grand after they miss weight.

Do you mean the Jones who forced an entire UFC event to be cancelled for the first time because when Hendo pulled out he wouldn't accept the late replacement of Middleweight Chael. That Jones yeah?

I've said it before I wish more fighters refused to face opponents who don't make weight. Its unprofessional & gaining a size advantage in a fight plus their body isn't weakened by a gruelling weight cut. A few more cancelled fights/ events might finally force the UFC to act.

Simple solution is make EVERY fighter go up a weight class & abolish weight cuts by letting them fight at their natural weight. USDA style regular surprise weight checks to avoid fighters still trying to gain an advantage. Tonight we have two natural lightheavys who have cut down to make 185 (or not as the case may be) why bother with the negative effects on their bodies from the weight cut when at the start they are the same weight?
