Robert Whitaker attacks UFC pay.

Nope, they aren't getting fairly compensated from a revenue standpoint and not from a general work related expenses standpoint and not from a hazard pay standpoint.

All the top MMA talent is in the UFC.

There’s thousands of fighters trying to get in the UFC.

So all of that proves you wrong. They *are* getting paid what they’re worth in this market

Rob says this and just days later his arse falls out. Coincidence? Dana paid him a visit in the hotel and taught him a lesson

And why do you think that is fair? The UFC influences the market to massively benefit the company and not the fighters. The market in itself isn't even fair. So why do you think it's not an unfair position if you only base their value on a unfair factor?

How is “the market in itself unfair”?

Some guys.....
Not one fighter in the ufc is an employee, they are all independent contractors. Some here should deal with the differences.
There are a lot of costs that have to be paid by the money: team, sparring partner, flights for the Corner men, insurance, as far as possible. And then imagine that someone only gets one fight a year, $ 20k, loses that fight. How can one feed a family and then all other costs with $ 20k?
And btw: fighter pay has always been a problem in the UFC. Why are fighters like Moose, MacDonald, Bader a.o., most of them on winning streaks, gone to another organization?

Do what you love, sure. But the world does not owe you cash payments for you doing what you love.
The world doesn't, no, but your employer that's just been sold for over 4billion, that's just signed a huge deal with ESPN, that's making money hand over fist should pay you adequately for the job you do, the work you put in and the risks you take.

Why don't he just move to Bellaor? Ducking Mousasi?

How is “the market in itself unfair”?

Because supply and demand is not the only thing that determines the worth of labor in a fair economy. A fair economy also compensates for the actual quantified labor put in and expenses related to that labor. These things all help the company and if a company is fair it rewards these factors. After that there are even general life expenses that come, which are often compensated by companies, because general quality of life for work force also has been shown to create better labor results.

Though a better answer to why the market in itself isn't fair is because it is basically monopolized. Monopolies aren't seen as fair. Which does tie in with the above paragraph cus it is monopolized by the employer that basically only uses the market as a way of valuing their work force.

Then he shouldn't bitch about pay. We all know what the high-paying professions are. Make a choice. He wouldn't be complaining if he was in the NFL.

If he chose to do what he loves for less pay, he should be happy with that
I agree but to be honest a lot of dudes in the nfl actually do bitch about their pay

A lot of predictably pathetic responses here. As unoriginal as the assertion of low fighter pay is, Whitaker is obviously 100% right. The UFC downright exploits fighters. Why? Because it can.

and the reason it can exploit fighters is because, like Whittaker, all they do is talk, but when UFC calls them up for a fight, they still jump right up and sign up for it.

if fighters REALLY wanted to change something, they'd do like every other pro sport and GO ON STRIKE. but they're all too scared, and who's fault is that? nobody but their own.

look how fast that fighter union thing dissipated. all because these men and women who have the guts to fight for their lives in the cage are too afraid of losing out on the peanuts they get from their bosses.

The world is not obligated to pay you money to do what you love.

Please look at the Ali act before spouting such ignorance.

If a court ruled the combatants in another combat sport should be entitled to 50% of the profits, then why must we hold UFC fighters to the lower standard of only 13%??

That isn't even considering the Reebok fiasco.

So why didn't he become an engineer or a medical doctor?

Or go into the NBA or NFL? I heard they pay a lot.
Nba and nfl are American sports you uncultured idiot.

This might shock you. But Australian atheletes get into sports Other than good old American football and basketball.

Exactly right... they whinge to the fans but dont dare speak up to the UFC or WME... that annoys me...

take a stand... band together and not fight on cards....

Compare how other sports split their cash with athletes. How can you be on the side of the ufc on this one?
Do "sports" split their earnings with the athletes? For most sports I follow, it's not the sport, but the clubs who pay the athlètes, and the pay is to attract the good athletes and convince them to play for them and not go looking for a better contract somewhere else.

UFC is the big fish in the MMA world and most other orgs struggle to make numbers that would allow fighters to get big paydays. If there is noone ready to pay you more for what you do, then maybe you aren't worth that much for the market world.

Rock and a hard place. He's right about the pay. Everyone saying his timing is appalling are also right ....

Hernia's don't just happen tho. A hernia is a condition that you don't just fall out of bed and contract... if you are young and healthy, you more than likely caused yourself. I'm going with he cut too much weight too quickly and damaged his bowels... I mean ... It's the ONE area of injury that you have 100% control over ...

He correctly pointed out that UFC fighters are (in most cases) WAY underpaid ....LOL...then he cost them more money than he would've made anyway by fucking up his weight cut.

He'll be stripped surely.

What kind of fucking idiot are you? If he has a valid complaint about an organization not paying their fighters enough, then yes, he has every right to complain. How would things EVER change for the better anywhere following your logic?

The schooling system prescribed by the rich and powerful has made him a sheep who will obey and not question anything.

I fucked your mom.

Now listen up, moron - you don't get to dictate your pay as an athlete in a sport like MMA.

You're a fuckwit troll and UFC shill, FUCK OFF!

So you are fine with ufc buying the competition and paying fighters less and think Whitaker is wrong?

If the ufc actually built their fighters, payed them more, they would be making more ppv, attract more fighters/prospects.

But some people actually think getting rebook gear and 20K for CTE is good enough while the other side makes millions
