Laughing...Toby was already a major success way before the war with hits such as "Should have been a Cowboy".. "How you like me now"..."A little less talk and a lot more action".... He was already a Country star. How does someone get the last laugh if they can't even remember saying something to someone?

Garth for sure was #1. I would say Toby Keith was in the mix with those others depending on what you're using to define "stardom". He had 20 number one hits, and (at least according to a Google search) "Shoulda been a Cowboy" was the most played country song of the 90's.

I'd argue Shania and Tim McGraw were bigger at their peak. George Straight more longevity. Faith Hill maybe? Had some crossover success which matters.

IDK, dude was a damn big star in that arena.
 
I really only know his name. Seemed like a big deal in the country scene, but I can't recall any songs.

Anyways, cancer sucks. RIP.
