Social RIP Toby Keith

Yeah, that was already posted. Not doubting that it's a story that's been repeated countless times on the internet, we've all seen it. But I seriously doubt the wording and context that most of those stories are trying to portray are accurate. And one more time, Keith at that time was a very outspoken democrat. The story, at least as repeated, makes zero sense. This may be a surprise to some of you, but you can't believe everything you read on the internet.

RIP to one of the GOATs. Part of the goal of American country music IMO is to remind us how good we have it here and to appreciate the simple things family, our freedom to live life mostly how we see fit, and most importantly doing redneck shit. He was amazing at evoking the right emotions, not like this new age pop nonsense that's all sad and lovey dovey crap to get young women to buy concert tickets.

Still think Strickland would've stomped DDP had he walked out to Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue. GOAT country song IMO.

Cool.
Nothing like someone offering friendly suggestions only to have it returned with shitty reply. Enjoy your day.

He literally wrote a song about how we were gonna fuck up the middle east at the same time the Dixie chick's got canceled for being anti war but sure. In 2001i was young but I do remember even dems Sabre rattling.

It was a sweeping majority of congress. Both parties. We were lied to. My brother and i enlisted, he got wounded in iraq and watched several of his friends burned alive in an amtrac. Us hill people came out in numbers because a city full of democrats who always talked down about us was attacked. You can only fault our governemt dude

Sorry, wasn't trying to be Richard. I appreciate your suggestions, I just don't like country music. Toby Keith was kind of the one exception.

My dog didn't die, my GF didn't leave me, and my truck didn't break down. I don't enjoy drinking and driving cars or trucks down country or dirt roads.

I can't like your post because it's horrific. And I know we were all lied to, that being said I do not beleive you could only fault the government. I think journalists and the media hold a pretty large part of the blame along with some other entities.

Keith identified as a conservative Democrat. He was not a leftie. And he was very outspokenly pro war. So what exactly makes "zero sense"? This story is in line with how he reacted to the Dixie Chicks.

It was 100% the government. The media actually resembled journalism back then, they didnt get into the hate/fear mongering until around 2005/2006 with swine/bird flu. Dont get me wrong, they never let good catastrophes go to waste, but their entire operation wasnt centered around gaining views at the expense of the people like it is now.

Both republicans and democrats pounced on the opportunity to surrender our rights, and like idiots we all gobbled it up.

What the radio plays as country is more pop these days. Check out lost dog street band, tyler childers, colter wall, and ryan bingham.

Lost dog is the best . Lately been digging Charley Crockett.

Toby wasn't bad though he had some fun jams but for sure pop country doesn't come close to the indie stuff same as every other genre

Prayers for his family that's too early to go.

Damn RIP. Wasnt the biggest fan of his music but he was definitely a big deal and crossed over into mainstream there for bit.

R.I.P.

About the only thing I really know about Toby Keith is that time Kris Kristofferson put him in his place:

"In 2009, actor Ethan Hawke wrote a guest story for Rolling Stone about this wild verbal altercation that went down at Willie Nelson’s 70th birthday concert back in 2003.

The night of the concert, Keith walked past Willie and Kris who were standing together, and told Willie “Happy birthday.”

But he then made a snarky remark to Kris, saying:

“None of that lefty shit out there tonight, Kris.”

Needless to say, Kris didn’t take to kindly to Keith’s remarks, and responded:

“What the f*ck did you just say to me?”

Willie knew Keith had just struck a nerve, saying:

“Oh, no. Don’t get Kris all riled up.”

Keith proceeded to say:

“You heard me.”

And began to walk away.

Kris responded:

“Don’t turn your back to me, boy.”

Keith:

“I don’t want any problems, Kris… I just want you to tone it down.”

Kris, a former Army Ranger and helicopter pilot, said:

“You ever worn your country’s uniform?

Don’t ‘What?’ me, boy! You heard the question. You just don’t like the answer. ‘Have you ever served your country?’ The answer is, no, you have not.

Have you ever killed another man? Have you ever taken another man’s life and then cashed the check your country gave you for doing it? No, you have not.

So shut the f*ck up… you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.”

Kris then told those nearby:

“You know what Waylon Jennings said about guys like him? They’re doin’ to country music what pantyhose did to finger-fuckin.'”

Kris is full of shit considering that Waylon quote is an urban legend.
