While I am no fan of how 3rd wave feminism has constructed a very divisive and antagonistic narrative, I genuinely believe that gender equality is a necessary pre-requisite for moving society forward. Don't let the vile opinions of a very vocal minority (social justice warriors) taint how you view an entire gender. The empowerment and integration of woman into roles traditionally assumed by men (the sciences, corporate roles etc) has been more beneficial than not.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the responsibilities of a man and woman? I personally can't think of any clear cut definitions.

A child (either girl or boy) should feel that they are capable of doing and being anything, but that they shouldn't expect any preferential treatment by virtue of what they have between their legs.

There is a balance. What I will say is that in a vacuum, it looks like you're defending the racist editorial.

I don't care what some people on a forum have to say about the piece, as much as I care that they publish the piece. If you can't see that popular news sources should not be publishing this stuff, I don't know what to say.

When I think of oppression in a political and racial context - Especially when comparing white rule vs black rule, I think of stripping people of their rights and not allowing equality under law. You're right but the context made me think of something else.

Yeah. Oppression doesn't have to be as obvious as legislation that says 'blacks aren't allowed to do A,B and C."
The current government just makes sure that those blacks are ostensibly free to do whatever they want in the eyes of the law, while denying them the ability to ever take advantage of those supposed opportunities. Essentially, the current government is maintaining the problem that the previous government realised had to be resolved: what do you do when 70% or so of your population is economically unproductive. The current government just doesn't seem to think it's a problem that needs to be resolved, because their pockets are full, so who cares?

That's why the wealth gap has been growing since the abolition of apartheid; the middle class (predominantly whites) have privatised everything (policing, healthcare, schooling, etc) while the poor blacks who weren't able to do the same, are now stuck depending on government welfare which keeps them alive enough to keep voting for it, but doesn't do enough to get them out of the trap.

South African legislation is oppressive to whites (the middle class), while South African reality is oppressive to blacks (the poor).

To which I respond, what is the responsibility of a man and a woman? Based on your previous response to another poster, I assume you subscribe to the traditional (Male = provider, and Female = Nurturer) archetype - which is fine.

Personally, I fundamentally disagree that this gender model is the ideal. In fact, I would argue that there is no ideal, and people should be free to pursue whatever arrangement is most suitable to their preferences and lifestyle choices. I have watched woman thrive in "non traditional" roles as scientists and corporate directors, as well as those who found happiness and fulfillment in being house wives and mothers (and in rare instances, I have seen woman achieve both)

Based purely on anecdotal observation, I notice that people who are either extremely pro or anti feminist tend hide behind these labels to rationalize their own shortcomings (I'm not accusing you of this). Why is it that uber feminists tend to be angry, unattractive woman and woman "haters" are neck beards and forever aloners?

With the caveat that somebody hires them and they are qualified. A quick search shows that Thrasher has won the LGTB Journalist of the year award and has appeared in the New York Times. This is not just some guy. He's a reputable journalist publishing blatantly racist material, and he will go by unscathed. This is a double standard, and it's why people are rightfully perturbed.
