Retirement

...bet after a lifetime living (and being reliant) with cell phones and the internet, all those who dream of a tech free life wouldn't last a month without them.

I agree. I plan on retiring to my family’s farm. It’s in a rural area and a slower/more preferable pace of life—but going completely off of the grid sounds kinda miserable.

Yep.

No way I'd ever go back to porno mags, for a start.

Looks great do you get much interesting wildlife?

I'm currently waiting for a groundhog to show his head again because I have a pellet gun waiting for him.
I have numerous sticky mouse traps around the house, which I've not had too many.
Deer, fox, owls, woodpeckers, possums, armadillos, and signs of coyotes.

But I'm protected by the most dangerous of all.... Winston.

The chances of waking up dead around Winston is low, but never zero. He has the heart of a lion... because he ate it!
Winston eats the sun and drinks the sky, and they both go with him when he dies!

What's your plans, guys?

I want to move to the middle of nowhere. No phones, no laptops, no nothing.

Would be nice to have an acre of land and a river near by.

Like in 1883!
Sounds like the life. If I ever left the busy Bay Area, I'd like to move up north. Maybe somewhere by the coast & Oregon border like Eureka or Crescent City. Or even somewhere in the Seattle area. New Hampshire was great, the few times I've been out there but I prefer the West Coast.

Chill in warmth on or near a coastline. Mediterranean climate ideally but I can deal with humidity too. Property would be great but I'm fine with a condo or tinneh house. Ideally in a place with a relaxed culture too. Hawaiian culture is great to me for that reason, slower pace, people don't care if you're late. I don't care for high strung people/culture. COL is the only problem.

Hopefully not in a large city, too much stimulation stresses meowt. Necessities being in walking or biking distance ideally too, good public transport is a big plus, I don't like having to spend a lotta time driving.

It's definitely not for everybody but I'm on my way to be completely off grid. A 45-year-old city kid, I've built my piece of heaven in the last couple of years. I'm still using the internet, obviously. But water, food and even electricity (to some point) are taken care of. Not easy, but very satisfying. And whatever my son chooses to do in life, he'll have some basic life skills that he picked up as we built our little farm, so I guess it was worth it. My big brother is a complete opposite, he couldn't live a day outside a concrete jungle and everything that modern society brings. The only alternative I could see is buying some small house somewhere in Greece or something. The weather, the sea, a small boat and all that. But I would miss the woods, nothing quite like living in the middle of an oak forest.

If I show up to your house in the middle of the night with a piece of ham in my hand, Winston will gladly turn you over for 5 seconds of ham eating pleasure.

Everyone has a price.

Yes, unless.... I planned for this exact scenario! See what you don't know is I have trained him to not take treats from strangers. In fact, I trained him to be more aggressive in the face of strangers with treats. He views it as an insult.

Train him to love not to hate. If he gets eaten his heart full of love will remain.
