Remember when frank mir said heavyweight sucks?

He’s absolutely right though. Frank Mir, AA, Timmeh and Stipe era ufc rosters have been nothing but horrible beyond the top 5-7.

then why do you watch MMA you fucking dolt. You can go see two unskilled polar bears go at it any time at the local bar.

I could have said you can see two unskilled polar bears go at it when you get home to your wife, but I have restraint.
Let's see those skilled fighters throw down against the unskilled....oh wait a minute...they ducked that division.

Those of you trying to excuse the lackluster HWs by saying speed and agility doesn't exist at that weight. It used exist but not anymore.

Hws are crap it's one of the only division were old mans and people new to to combat sport can have succes

And yet even a fringe TOP 10 HW can turn the rest of the roster MW and below into burger meat. I rather watch two unskilled polar bears fight than turbo manlets or WMMA.
turbo manlets hahahaha

Name names. Many guys like Semmy dabbled in MMA and got their lunch taken
I mentioned "for striking" because with the threat of grappling and takedowns guys in MMA have an extra element even if they never use it. I'm talking guys like Ernesto Hoost and others during that era. They weren't overweight slobs that we see sometimes make their way to MMA today.

Yes, two LHWs knocked out two short HWs.

Skills are fun and matter, same with personality, but not more important than size. Size matters, which is why there's weight classes. As it is, LW to me is the best division cause it possesses so many different things that encapsulate what make this sport fun while maintaining a respectable level of size, but I will always prefer a bigger skilled guy fight over a small guy fight and there's a point where I just stop caring and it begins quickly below LW. FW is the last stop. BW and FLW + WMMA is whatever. I just don't care.

Fighting is fundamentally about giant dudes smashing organs out of each other. In everything. Even in movies and pro wrestling. The further you steer away from that, the less people care. Not just me. You can try and compensate with some personality, a truly stacked division with heat all over the place, mega flashy skills, but only LW fits that description in UFC. Others are mainly work rate monkeys and I don't give a shit. Black Beast beats all of them.

Bars are closed and our bull can't make it to our house cause of the lockdown. Or maybe you meant just me and my wife in which cause - I can only really see my wife from my own perspective, so it's just one polar bear. Mirrors don't work, they get steamy. AC could undo it, but I don't like fucking in the cold... cause I'm not actually a polar bear.

No.
Thank you for the open, public admission of mediocrity. You love the same things about fighting that the average low-IQ American casual fan does. Congratulations.

I'm not treaturious, anti-human scum. I appreciate the working class and the like, so this doesn't bother me.

Add to it, the "hard cores" of every fan base are a detriment in terms of growth. If you're failing with casuals, you're dying. And I love living.

Truth had been spoken. End thread.

“Heavyweights suck, the majority of us,” he continued. “We’re just not very good fighters. They’re like watching polar bears fighting over some food. Balance isn’t great. No one knows how to do submissions barely. Once you get out of the top ten, you’re really scratching the bottom of the barrel.”

I mean he's not wrong, heavyweight has always been the weakest and least skilled division out there.

Nah, HW in the early 00's was at the forefront of MMA's evolution as it was the division that had had the most investment in it, it was never massively deep in terms of elite talent but the guys at the top were some of the first to show really rounded and/or elite skill sets.

Guys like Fedor, Cro cop and Big nog are not better than Curtis blaydes, Ngannou, Cormier, Rozenstruik, and Stipe.
Rozenstruik is a very very bad fighter, horrible, like he really sucks, everyone else u mentioned is ok. But Roz is lucky to complete in an era full of obese prospects and old people.
His technique is lower than a shit stain. He was getting by on being a very hard hitter, then met Francis was both hits hard and has decent punching technique.

Roz is a very good striker. He has like 80 kickboxing fights.

He just needs to work on his takedown defense and grappling

Yeah I agree to a certain extent. There are the Stipe Miocic and Velasquez types that are very skilled towards the top of the division though.

Throughout the modern history of HW it has always had elite fighters at the top like Fedor, Cain, Nog, Stipe, Werdum, DC, Randy, Ngannou and Overeem, to name a few, but it has also had very little depth past the top guys.

If you watch a HW fight outside of the top 10 today it is basically the same bar brawl as it was in 2005. Mir was one of the more skilled HW's at his best, and what he says here is true.

But Mir is obviously right, are people really disagreeing with him? Don't get me wrong, there are some awesome HWs who are a joy to watch. Overeem is as skilled as anyone in the UFC(IIRC he has the highest striking accuracy in UFC history); Werdum is a top 5 BJJ player of all time with solid Muay Thai; DC is an Olympian in wrestling with good hands, great power, and a BJJ black belt and of course Stipe is one of the best to do it at HW and is very well rounded with good fight IQ.

However, the gist of Mir's statement is spot on and especially this part.
“Heavyweights suck, the majority of us,” he continued. “We’re just not very good fighters. They’re like watching polar bears fighting over some food. Balance isn’t great. No one knows how to do submissions barely. Once you get out of the top ten, you’re really scratching the bottom of the barrel.
That's 100% true. I mean come on, name one HW fighter outside the top 10 that you think is a complete mixed martial artist, consistently in shape, and that you would say is a must see fighter. I don't think there is one, in fact the division is so shallow that every once in a while some bum level fighter breaks the top 10.

That never happens at LW where the division is so deep you get top level matfch ups outside the top 10 all the time.

That's why the veterans can stick around the top 10 so long, even as they slow down or their chin wears they're still often much more skilled than the young guns.

You must be obese, don't worry you can't beat any of the lighter fighters they would turn you into hamburger meat. You like to associate your fatness with you being able to fight I know.
How tall are you??

They only seemed good because they were competing against other jobbers.

So you're saying Fedor, Nog, CroCop, Kharitonov, Aleks, Barnett, Werdum, Arlovski, Timmeh, and Couture were jobbers? Who the hell is legit then?
