That’s a great topic to discuss actually. I’ve said here that I believe the game will continue to evolve and the next generation will be better than this current one probably. There’s no issue with reminiscing and think about when you were younger and how fun it was, but it shouldn’t cloud your judgement. It’s not healthy to be like “back in my day etc.” and just shit on the young people because you’re nostalgic. This isn’t anything new, I just think this is the first generation to combat that and start talking shit back.
I agree it’s a great topic to discuss, but will throw in that current generation thinking can be just as clouded as boomer thinking. There seems to be no clear definitive statistical acceptance to define the GOAT. One person may accept stats A, B, and C. While another gives stats D, E, and F more weight.

Let’s say LeBron retires right this instance just because, and we go into the future.

- Next “Chosen One” retires from a NBA that further altered the rules and court to promote even more high scoring games by adding 4pt spots.
- Very durable small shooting guard that didn’t win many individual offensive or defensive accolades, but was a 4pt. specialist.
- Surpasses LBJ for scoring title by 50, but needed 50 more games to do it.
- Went 3 for 15 in NBA title appearances
- Played entire career on the Celtics, but always had a couple All Star level teammates surrounding him.

Are you just being nostalgic if you told a young kid that poser couldn’t even carry LeBron’s water bottle back in your day? Knowing in your heart it’s true. Or would you accept the young kid is right since being the all time scoring leader in an altered league makes him better than LeBron with one less championship, because he went to more NBA tile games?

I feel NBA fans vacillate between quality and quantity to suit their needs.

I agee with the way you are saying if i played ball for infinty i could out score Bron. Thats just how the math works.

I also agreee that Staph is basically te GOAT

Lakers did not earn it. They just got a superstar gift wrapped to them for no reason like they have multiples times in the past already.
they assembled the biggest flopper team in existence
all crybabies in the starting five except maybe one

So Brandon Williams suffered a hamstring injury and Dwight Powell and Kessler Edwards collided head first resulting in stitches last game. The Mavs have been so devastated this season they now are in danger of being the first team in history to forfeit games. The rules state you have to have at least 8 players and the Mavs have only 7 players left. They would have to dress an injured player just to not forfeit at this point. Even if they do that, their bench will consist of 2 players.

This is the most devastating season for a bsketball team I've ever seen, maybe that anyone has ever seen.

Right, this is why I become skeptical when an argument is made with a heavy emphasis on longevity. Take Barry Sanders and Jim Brown. They are the #5 and #11 rushers in career yards. Both left in their primes. Everyone ahead of Barry has 3 to 6 more years playing time. Everyone ahead of Jim has 1 to 8 more years playing time for a list of players with at least 10k yards total.

Yet when GOAT running backs are discussed, it’s generally more or less a discussion about Brown or Sanders, despite nine other players being in the mix. You’ll even have people who want to throw out the 10k minimum to add Gale Sayers into the mix with a career average of 5.2 yds per.

To me, I liken LeBron to Emmitt Smith. A HoF player who just happened to hang around longer than Barry and JB did. With only Barry Sanders having zero HoF help on his teams.

Yeah but LeJuice isn’t just “hanging around” he’s played at an elite level for 20 years lol. People act like he’s just Frank gore putting up meaningless numbers at this point.

Good point. But it's also good to remember that humans aren't like computers where their constant improvement is inevitable. Humans have limits. A ton of analyses have shown that sprint records are mostly due to improvements in shoe and track technology. Usain Bolt running against Jesse Owens in the 1930s wouldn't get close to a 9.57.

In team sports with mass popularity like basketball and soccer, it's harder to judge. Pre-1970s basketball was undoubtedly inferior but when it comes to the last few decades, it gets a little murkier. Yeah, Lebron played against better offensive players, but they weren't trying to take him out like MJ did. Lebron had greater longevity but also didn't dominate as much... and on and on.

I can concede his elite play still. But why diminish Frank Gore? Can’t be that meaningless if he finished up with a higher yards per attempt than Emmitt. Like I said, fans of players pick and choose the criteria that matters to them.

Cuz Gore at no point was the best rb in the league. He’s a better example of longevity stats than someone like LeJuice.

Yea he’s not stat padding like goat degenerate after he came back from quitting on his team for a second time.

But how can it not be about LeBron longevity in basketball when other than total points and All Star nods, which themselves tend to lend to longevity, he doesn’t lead any other major accolades unless it’s a category of having to do with games started or games played when I go over the list of individual NBA awards given?

@Revolver your boys quit on Cleveland twice, and Miami once. Only reason why he’s still a Laker is, because they capitulated and brought his son on. There was no doubt he was gonna go where his son was (his words), the Lakers knew no one else was interested, and they had the pick to spare. You make Bronny a legit 1st round lottery pick with a lot of interest, LeBron doesn’t sign the new Laker contract before the draft.

Anyways, gotta run for a bit, ya’ll have a blessed day. At this point I’d rather stop debating singular GOATs and make it a Mt. Rushmore of GOATs.

I think it’s actually much easier to discuss GOATs of eras instead of just one outright unanimous GOAT. Records will always be broken and there’s going to be more players playing like this in the future.

I think the equivalent of Frank Gore in the NBA would be someone like Vince Carter. Solid counting stats and he played for 22 years but didn’t make an all star team for the last 13 years of his career and only made 2 all nba teams. Very good career but not an all time one. LeBron is more like Jerry Rice having a 1000 yard season in his 40s which nobody else has ever done. No disrespect just different levels

Don't even try to find a comp for LeGOAT. That's why he's one of one. Dude is doing things that have never been done before.
